I’ve started a list of cars I’m interested in.

2nd gen BRZ/86
Civic XI Type R
GR Yaris Rallye (Circuit Pack for those of you in Europe).
Porsche Boxster/Cayman S (987/981)

There are lot of pros/cons (to me) on the list and a lot different cars.

If I got a hot hatch, I’d still keep my current BRZ. For me, I’ve never owned a turbo hot hatch and I think it’d be cool to own one, the practicality would be handy too, but I don’t want to give up owning a rwd sports car.

The Boxster/Cayman is on there as I’ve always dreamed of owning a Porsche and the sweet sound of a flat 6, the long gearing is a turn off though. Also it’ll be a used car, plus P tax. Probably at the lower end of the list actually.

Of course the 2nd gen. I’m assuming towards the end of the decade they’ll start releasing the tS versions of the BRZ and other special editions of the GR86 etc., it will be the best version of this car you can get. But I’ve been here before. I know the 2nd gen is better mechanically but will it be different enough to be my last ICE car.

Anyway there is still plenty of time to decide, plenty of reviews to read and in the meantime enjoying my current gen BRZ. I’ll likely be adding to the list as new cars come out too.

I’d be interested to hear what other car enthusiasts have on their list. I assume others are starting to think about this too.
Having tried it, the GR Yaris is hardly more practical than a 1st gen twin. The hatch helps somewhat, but is small. Anything else is similar or worse. It goes like stink though, and has great inputs.

I thought about keeping the 86 and adding a 986 to the fleet, they're cheap-ish, have a flat 6, sound great with a little help, but really aren't fantastic handlers, especially compared to an 86. I'd be afraid I'd just never use it. Then again, they'll likely cost next to nothing to own over a few years, as I can't see them depreciating any further (although we can't predict the impact large-scale ICE restrictions will have on the sports car market)

Hopefully this one. Just waiting for something worth buying... and reasonably priced. That may be a while...

Would this do then?

That's my 86 replacement for now - Being in the UK where small engines are the norm, especially for younger drivers, I want to try some interesting engines before we bow out. Likely to get an EV to replace the Jag next year, but the Alfa really hides it weight well - it's lighter than it's competition and barely feels heavier than the 86 whilst having that awesome engine, sound and feel plus nice to be able to use the car more often and in comfort as well.

The Alfa definitely does. The Jag is more of crossover, isn't it?

So which one do you actually drive more often?
The Jag or the Alfa?

Im gonna guess the bicycle that isn't shown, since that one actually works.

I'll always own at least one internal combustion engine car. even holding onto a carbureted unit in the event of a major EMP event! Oil won't be going away anytime soon. In event of a power grid failure, an all electric fleet would be useless.

I almost had to spend the night in Mahwah NJ on my way to RI from way down souf. 90% of stations were out of fuel after Hurricane Sandy, found the one station that had gasoline and waited in line. Got lucky as they were only allowing odd license plates to get fuel that day!

Gasoline shortages do happen, and people do get stranded from them. Also, you get to wait in long lines at a gas station rather than just keep car plugged in for when power comes back on.

Until the electric charging infrastructure in the US is robust enough and battery tech makes its next mass market leap I'm not to concerned on the EV switch over. BUT, I've have my eyes on a C7 or M2/MK5. I'll need/want a new DD in a few years first which will likely be a modest CX5.

I thought it was interesting they were showing it dyno tested through 200 simulated drag races with no issues. Think it will fit in the FRS? I know I could shoehorn it into the Suburban.

Yes, the E-Pace is a CUV. It's the wife's but it's a nice car to potter about it - it's only the D150. I will drive that when the weather is poor namely due to the silly tyres the Alfa comes on (and the fact it does 43 (UK) mpg vs 23). FWIW the Alfa seems to be pretty good reliability wise, based on the conversations with other owners. The Jag has been faultless.

Also to note, you possibly saw on your news, we had a silly fuel "crisis" recently. Whilst I avoided it largely, it's meant that fuel is still silly money as the stations are recovering 4+ weeks on. Certainly having one of the cars electric would have eased the worry a little. Luckily the Jag will make way for something like an EV6 or Polestar 2.
