The amount of money you lose quickly in cars is why s/h is logical.

I bought during the pandemic, I only regret not waiting and buying from over east/sydney a manual and driving it back it back to perth 3-4K KMS.

My experience was that some dealers still aren't up to speed with Internet sales - they'll steer you to a phone call or coming in person, even in the current stay-at-home times. I needed to repeat myself a few times over email that I'm serious and want their best price. Still didn't work for all of them, though. Some dealers don't even respond to Internet queries.

Once you get a final out the door price, the breakdown doesn't really matter - if dealer A has an extra $250 in fees but drops the car price by $500, I'd buy from them. In my experience getting the out the door price is actually quite easy, probably more so than getting the sell price of the car.

I was also emailing them and talking via their website chat, they pretty much flat out refused to talk to me any further unless I changed my mind about going to visit. So that irked me a bit, like dude... You don't want to discuss prices over the phone and all that?

Interesting article covering the potential collapse of the used car market due to surplus demand as auctions are basically shut down at this point. Also, how GM/Ford are concerned about leases and are offering extensions to help prevent a flood of returned cars.

Yeah. It’s been a house of cards for awhile. Could be like the housing market in 08 where you could not pay your mortgage and it took the banks 3 years to get to you. Some people who lost jobs and can’t pay will keep the cars until the banks find the time to go get the car.

Well, now that folks are taking out near mortgage length loans for cars it wouldn't surprise me.

My dealer offered the same thing when I bought. Except they made an error which gave me trade in leverage.

the irony is that they fought tooth and nail for so long to avoid that very thing.

i have trouble feeling sorry for any company that volunteers to shoot themselves in the foot.

I've been shopping online the last week or so for a leftover 2019 4x4 Silverado for the wife. Her current on has 165K on the clock. There is some flexibility on pricing but not what you'd expect given the inventory and slower sales due to CV. As I fully expect we'll be locked down at least another month,, maybe towards the end of May things might be better.

Just going to copy & paste in all the related threads.
I know this is the total opposite of what I said at the start of this thread but this is the reality NOW.

For those of you thinking there are going to be great deals as the dealerships try to get rid of their "excess" inventory. Keep dreamin'!

I have to sit through a two hour meeting on the state of the industry twice a week.

Some FACTS:

There is not a single new car being made right now.
Most companies have not made any for 3 to 6 weeks.
It will be anywhere from 2 to 8 weeks before most are making cars again.
This means someplace between 8 and 12 MILLION less new cars built this year.
The whole industry is at a zero cash flow level.
When production does ramp up again it will be slow and restricted to high demand/volume models to restore cash flow.
Several of the smaller parts suppliers will not survive this which will hamper the start ups even more.
Many of the manufactures should be tooling over to the 2021 models within the next 60 days.
They are trying to decide if they will return to making 2020 models or go straight into the 2021s.
R&D is on hold with every single manufacturer so no new models are being worked on (see cash flow above).
Low volume cars are most certainly DONE for this year and probably for at least two more. IF they come back at all.
The glut of used cars that is already building will hammer another nail into the coffin of the new ones.

I know that there will be a bunch of armchair experts working at McDonalds that will dispute this information but at this point in time there is about an 85% probability you can kiss the Twins (in any form) goodbye forever.

Forget everything you think you know about the auto industry because NONE of it applies anymore and it will NEVER go back to pre Covid status. We are all living through the end of an automotive era as we know it.

Sincerely,

@Tcoat that was what made me decide to get a 2020 I feel that it's now or never to get one in the color and trim you want. I'm not holding my breath that the next gen will become a reality after this

In my region (Gulf States Toyota), $1000 cash back, plus a dealer discount, put me at $28.8K before TT&L, on a 2020 Hakone MT, delivered from out of state. There were only 2 MT Hakone in the Gulf states region, both in Louisiana. If you can find the 86/BRZ you want now, and are ready financially, buy it. If you can find a dealer willing to order a car, any delivery date they offer will be speculative at best. The 86/BRZ on the ground now could be the last of the new 1st gen cars...and MT 86s are getting scarce.
