@Leonardo, thats exactly what happened. Everything felt tight, and the local dealership just threw the lugs on after swapping tires onto rims. So I would not recommend stock lugs on aftermarket wheels just from my personal experience.

Stock lugs fit my Enkei's fine.
Wheels off and on multiple times. No stripped threads, no broken studs. OP, what rims are you talking about. Stripped nuts = monkey fisted install, over torqued or cheap alloy nuts. Broken studs = Over torqued, monkey fisted install or rattle gun. Remember to keep your threads clean as well, a wire brush or tap and die. Basic maintanance is simple. I also have been using a "dab" of grease or antiseize for the last 40 years, no broken studs, no stripped nuts, and the world has never ended with a wheel falling off.

scotto79: i suggest to name specific aftermarket wheels which have such issue and leave it at that, not generalize. I highly doubt that all, nor even majority of aftermarket wheels have issues with mounting using stock 19mm lugnuts on ours, so it sounds a bit misleading.

I have these wheels in 17x8. Stock lug nuts worked fine, even with the factory tire iron which is pretty wide.
I did eventually get a set of muteki open ended lug nuts which are a lot slimmer and use a splined socket that should fit any wheel. |

As others have mentioned, not all aftermarket wheels are created equal.
Just as there are aftermarket wheels designs marketed to this community that will not clear the Performance Package Brembo BBK, or require you to install centering rings, many also have tight tolerances surrounding the lug seat which forces you to run specific wheel hardware. Whether you are a weekend track warrior, w2w racer, or just an enthusiast that performs a lot of your own maintenance, finding a wheel with an open center design (or at the very least one with generous lug openings) will allow for quicker dismounting and mounting while preventing damage caused by tools. Along with select wheel manufacturers, we design our wheels to be hub-centric and user-friendly. They accept both OEM and aftermarket mounting hardware with a 60° tapered seat (i.e Muteki, Project Kiks, etc), accommodate OEM center caps, and have a shallow rear chamfer to allow the wheel to remain hub centric even if spacers are used. There is more to a wheel than just a pretty face - Ryan
