I will never understand all the whining about a little flat spot. I'm 100% in agreement with @humfrz.

Embrace the character of the whole machine as is. Learn to dance with it.

Oh, heck, they just need SOMETHING to whine about.

They don't have:

Carburetors that flood every now and then

Spark plugs that foul

Ignition points that burn out

Vacuum powered windshield wipers that "stop" when accelerating

Distributors that collect moisture when it rains, so the car won't start

Points in voltage regulators that stick

Vapor lock to contend with on hot days

Exhaust valves that burn

Heaters that barely heat (dang, I forgot my car coat and gloves)

Retreaded tires that come apart

6 volt headlights that you could hardly see by

Overheating radiators

Annnnnnnd before that, "where did I put that crank"

Annnnnnd even before that, "who stole my buggy whip"

Yep, life is hard for some of the younger drivers ......

Welcome to the community!

I just picked up my Ultramarine 2013 FRS about two weekends ago from the dealership with about 38k Miles, nothing feels better than waking up and seeing that beauty sitting there.

Welcome again bud, there's an awesome community here that I've come to find and I'm sure that if you need anything people will come to aid.

Also, I didn't read much of the replies but just in case nobody else gave you the answer to the torque dip, You'll need a new exhaust system / header i believe, not something I've looked into a ton myself yet

Open Flash Tablet or Ecutek for a Tune & Headers for torque dip.

AKA the good old days.

One of the reasons I bought this car...
In the future, it might be the car we think of as that car in the good old days.
(did that make any sense?)

Makes perfect sense. I got the FRS on purpose for minimum doodads. I'd have gone with manual crank windows if they were available.

The tune on stock header does help, not only with the torque dip, but the overall low end torque of the engine. No it won't make the dip disappear completely but it definitely feels more lively in the low end and midrange RPM.

The quickest solution for now is just to pick up some octane booster. Since you're in California you're probably stuck on 91 octane. You really want 93 octane to get the car the rev more smoothly in warm weather.

Odd choice of words. Usually "caving" means you did something you didn't want to. My 86 will be here any day now, and I'm not "caving," I'm beating down the door.

I sure do miss vapor lock, adjusting points, timing guns and overheating in the summer!

Yep, the young-ens today will be telling their grandchildren about when they had their FR-S that they had to find the key, get in, start the engine, figure a route, put it into gear, steer it, apply the brakes and turn it off.

"Now all you have to do is unplug it, get in, tell the car where you want to go and get out when you arrive at your destination".

That requires a little time, dedication and patience. Ain't nobody got time 'fo dat. Driving the thing well despite it's "limitations" is it's own reward. And, makes you a better driver, something else does anymore either.

I (still) have an NB and the FRS is a completely different ballgame hahaha much more power. that boxer engine really pulls. my girlfriend has an NB as well (but hers actually runs) so I'm gonna get her out on the street and take her in a straight away and see how we hold up hahaha that weight difference though! a few hundred pounds makes a difference haha yea I try to stay above it for the most part hahaha
