Ok, now have on good authority that there may be Aisin options. I have a lot of research to do.

If anyone is interested, PM me, I will give you a task.

edit - not to take away from MFactory. But I work in the metalworking industry. They are not kidding about needing to make a lot of parts to make this work. This is a huge ass headache for them for a part that is highly specialized, much more so than a short 6th.

I found that a Nissan Silvia S15 had an AZ6 with a .767 6th gear. The thread is on Grassroots Motorsports. I don't have many computer skills and my wife's at work so I can't provide a link. It was dated 9/27/2011.

goofed up

Just realized we have .767 already and we're looking for .687. I didn't see anything higher than .767 so my search didn't help us.

Feel like a slightly taller 1st and 2nd with a 3.9 FD would make the gearing perfect. Would make 6th taller too.

There are already taller 1st and 2nd mfactory gears, and shorter 6th.

I feel like it's so much more work to change gears in the trans vs a differential. If you're not making them stronger, why touch them? Any change in a lower gear makes the gear above it unbalanced I'd think.

Not being combative; just discussing

Yup, and doing the 1-2 with a FD would be perfect. no need for 6th swap.
spacing on the 1-2 and 2-3 could be better. 3-4 and 4-5 are pretty good as is.

It would much slower NA, but great for turbo kitted cars.

not necessarily, each shift with a 4.1 FD when you otherwise wouldn't have had to shift with a 3.9 FD you lose the mechanical torque advantage until you would have to shift with the 3.9FD. from 0mph to x mph a more aggressive FD will generally be faster true and by roughly the % difference of the numerical value although usually a little less, so less then 5% in this case,

BUT,
From any given speed to any given speed it can vary which one is actually faster because of the need to shift vs not needing to etc... you can't just blanket statement one is ALWAYS faster, and even from 0-x mph it would be less then 5% slower not MUCH slower.

BUT,
with a taller 1-2 gear to stay in peak power band in 2-3 gears longer it would more then make up for any mechanical torque lost with the 3.9 FD while still giving you a mechanical torque advantage when you otherwise would have shifted but now don't from the 3.9 FD, so win win.

So yeah it would be good for both NA as you could still do 0-110mph in 4th and FI will allow you to use 5th to about 135mph. Even without FI 5th gear NA with a 4.1 is disappointing unless you go to 4.56+ FD, but then top speed in 5th now drops to almost what 4th was with a 3.9FD but requires 1 more shift to do so and MPG/RPM in 6th become that much worse.

This is why some people want the taller 6th to use a as a sacrificial gear for cruising and mpg.

Yup. And an alternative is taller FD swap. Paired with taller 1-2 gears would be perfect.
