I also liked Matt LeBlanc but not Chris Evans.
The segment they had together was rather dull.
The corvette and viper laser chase segment was "ok" at best.
I hope it gets better.

IIRC from watching old videos on YouTube, Top Gear started out in the 60's as some sort of news segment before BBC made it into a standalone TV show later on.

Clarkson was always a funny bloke (check out that hair) along with Tiff on the old format of Top Gear. James was also on the old format of Top Gear by the mid/late 90's, and there was Vicki too.

There was also a dude named Quentin Willson which I can still read his stuff on classic car magazines from the UK.

Haha BBC thought Chris Evans would turn out great like Hamster did (similar radio background), boy were they wrong.

S1 of Clarkson/Wilman's Top Gear sucked, sounds like new crew just need some time to find the voice.

Even TG USA was picking up steam until I stopped watching halfway through season 1.

I'll watch it if it's somewhere convenient, i.e. youtube. Already have Amazon prime so the Grand Tour will get a watch because it's basically free to me.

Googling it I came across a 360 vid from the passenger seat of their new rallycross track driven by Harris. Nifty. I know if I watch it on my phone I can swing the phone around and it pivots like you're looking through a window. Only a few years away from broadcasts being put out in full VR.

I found the program painful to watch, both the main show and the 'Extra Gear' segment.

The main show: LeBlanc was tolerable, but only that. Chris Evans (the guy with the glasses) was just plainly annoying, screaming and jumping up and down like an idiot joker.
They are obviously acting and trying to be someone they are not and never will be.

The Extra Gear section: Rory Reid did surprisingly well for an amateur but Chris Harris was horrible.
It was nice to see Sabine. She is a better driver then actress but did okay during the show. She is very German though.

I have to say that the old Top Gear wasn't my 'cup of tea' either anymore. It was an interesting automotive program but turned into an entertainment show loosely related to (wrecking) cars. Like other said, James May's functional autism kept me watching.

Two minutes in and I switched over!! The formula was getting long in the tooth with Clarkson and co and now with Evans it's even worse! Squeaky voice and lots of ginger excitement, not for me.. rather drink a can of irn bru!

I liked Matt LeBlanc but not Chris Evans....he seemed to animated and trying too hard.

I was listening to the podcast of Every Day Driver and agree that as this was the first episode of the new cast we need to be patient and let them make some changes.

Any thoughts?
Yeah Evans is atrocious, here's what I wrote about it in a discussion earlier this week:
"Leblanc does a good job with what he was given, he is enjoyable and knowledgeable. Chris Evans is atrocious, (he is literally what i think a bridge troll would look and sound like in real life, my buddy thinks he sounds like a cross between kermit the frog and lemongrab). He literally knows jack shit about cars and it shows in the way he speaks (e.g look at the stable braking... really becausd the cars four corners were jumping up down left and right thats not stable at all). He is tedious and boring to watch/listen to and apparently is a cry baby on set going off on the crowd and complaining all the time"

Nope disagree, I will never warm up to Evans, Leblanc may need adjustment (SAbine also, but they are decent) Evans on the other hand is just plain unbearable as both host and person.

I never said you would, nor should you. I started to like TG USA, but Tanner Foust still sucks so I sympathize.

I actually enjoy foust and his 3rd grade antics, I cannot stand Evans attitude, voice, face, lack of car knowledge on a car show.

The one thing that attracted me to TG-UK\CMH was that I would have been willing to hang out with any or all of the three and it would be a good day.

To some extent its the same with TG-USA, all seem like relatively genuine guys I could hang out with and have some fun.

Evans, just don't see it. Leblanc has grown on me so he's OK.

Still, I'm all in for Top Gear-FT86. We found any sponsors yet?

The only real us car show contender in the last 5 years was the car show with Adam Carolla and Matt Ferrah. Why in the world they didn't get picked back up somewhere I have no idea.

I tried to like it but just could not take Adam for long stretches (like 10 minutes)

That's the problem with Carrola. He really needs a smoother, centering force to balance his smug delivery (and borderline crazy logic). When he worked on KROQ and on the Man Show with Kimmel he had that to an extent. Farrah is a great gearhead but was never able to balance Carrola enough to make him stomachable for more than a segment. I shut it/him off too.
