I don't see anything wrong in the images. Just so I understand the issue, if you lift your hood to about the same height as the oem proprod holds it, does the hood just fall shut again without any resistance?

If you lift it higher then does it hold the hood up or have any more resistance against closing?

Whatever position I lift it to it just drops all the way with no resistance.

hmmm....if the shock/strut is OFF the car and you work it, does it give resistance..??

Do you have both struts mounted with the fat part up..??

Was this car ever in an accident and had the hood replaced with an non-OEM hood that happens to be made out of steel rather than aluminum?
I'm not even sure if there are third parties that even make a steel equivalent of the stock hood. Just trying to guess since that installation seems correct.

An answer to the bold question would be helpful.

^^^^^ This is the same info I've been waiting on. I don't know if you've had a chance to reply to my sales guy but I had asked if when you unbolt the hood from the hinges do they move freely?

And then my next question was the same about the car being in an accident that may have damaged something, because that hood isn't the same color as the rest of the car. Knowing more about that would certainly help solve this problem.

And the final question I had was about any additional dynamat or anything that would weigh the hood down. To my knowledge there are no steel replacement hoods, but some sort of straight weight modification to the hood was my final thing to look at (which involves weighing the hood, I even provided a target weight).

So trust me, I've been trying to figure this out from day 1, but I haven't got any information back. Seeing the thread and knowing that the car has gone through 4 different sets of hood struts and seeing a different color hood on the car is a clear indicator to me that we need to look elsewhere than the hood struts themselves.

The struts are both mounted the same. When off the car i can compress them without tremendous effort and they decompress on their own. I've been in contact with Muchee at Grimmspeed and we both think the issue is with the hood. It hasn't been in a wreck that i'm aware of. The hood has the Subaru stamping. The color matches the rest of the car except in direct sunlight it looks purple. I don't know if its supposed to be that way or the former owner had something done. Grimmspeed wants me to weigh the hood. That will be my next step when i get a chance.

@GrimmSpeed I haven't had a chance to take the hood off to check the hinges yet. I will check them when i take it off to weigh it.

@GrimSPEED No additional dynamat that i'm aware of. Looks the same as pictures and videos iv'e seen. I'm planning on taking it off to see if the weight reduction does anything.
