P0462 - Fuel Level Sensor

I've seen another post on here, but what happened with my car is slightly different.

Car arrived with no check engine lights. I fixed it and drove it up for inspection, and on the way home (after about 40 miles of driving) the check engine light comes on. "Strange" I think to myself... Not sure what have suddenly happened on a car with only 14k miles.

Rather than checking the code immediately with the Techstream I held off for a day. Today my fuel indicator said "low" so I went to fill up. Right after filling up I noticed my fuel indicator still said I was low and the yellow light was on... "Strange" I thought again.

When I brought it home the code was a P0462 - Fuel Level Sensor A. This is a completely stock car and I haven't touched the fuel system. From my other Subaru I also know that there are two fuel level sensors in the car, one on the right side of the tank and one on the left side with the pump...

It seems strange to me that before the fillup the fuel level was displaying properly, and afterwards (same 93 octane as usual) it did not... I'm going to start by checking fuses as it seems really strange to have the gauge stop working with 2 level sensors. Anyone else had this problem or know what the cause is?

seems reasnobly common fault on various subaru models

are you sure their are two sensors and not jist two fuel pickups

if it new and unmodified just get dealer to replace fuel sender in tank

When I replaced my fuel pump in my other BRZ I didn't check which side of the tank it was supposed to be in, I just saw the standard fuel pump housing on the passenger side and said "that must be it". So I opened it only to find a fuel sending unit with a filter attached to it and a hose from the filter that ran to the other side of the tank.

On the other side of the tank is another fuel pump housing (this one with a fuel line coming from it - duh) and in there is another sending unit. Thus why the code said it corresponded to sending unit A, otherwise if there were only 1 sending unit I don't see why they would need to distinguish it as "A". You only do this if there is also a B or a C to go with it.

And according to my local dealer, if the car has a rebuilt title the warranty is void. I'm not sure where it says this in their actual policies, but that's what I have been told despite the fact that it's a perfectly good car and the accident had nothing to do with this...

By the way - today the fuel level gauge started working again... No idea why as I haven't even looked into it yet, but it did. Check engine light is still on but should clear out after 2 more times of running the car.

I got that code a couple of weeks ago. Filled up and reset it and it hasn't happened again.

I've had this code a few times, once it actually pulled up a check engine, slip light, and abs light.

I've had this on my BRZ, It is actually one of the sensors that are faulty. I'd fill up all the way and it'd read 3/4 full or sometimes still empty. All I had on the car were boltons. Took it into my dealership with the CEL still on and they fixed it under warranty. Just take it in, say you have a CEL and your fuel gauge is inaccurate.

Any updates on this?

I have had the P0462 come on 4 times now.

I have gotten it with a CEL, and also with just the ABS and Traction Lights.

I have not changed any fuel components, and also checked with my tuner that it isn't anything in the tune.

My fuel gauge is and has been working accurately, unlike some of the symptoms I read up further from other owners.

Any of you have to actually take action to get it fixed, or did the code just work itself out?

I haven't seen mine come back since my last post in this thread. Currently using E85.

Anyone know the reason to this code?. Decided to tune the car to run e85 today, drove 30 mins, turn it off, got back in car to start it up and saw the code, cleared it with the OFT and drive for about 10 mins on the freeway and all the lights on the dashboard turn off and back on with traction, abs and seatbelt light on. During that time I had the OFT on my lap and it also flickered and shut off and on, I quickly unplugged it after. I was wondering was it the loose wire to the oft that caused all the lights to turn on or was it the code?

The flickering of the OFT was most definitely caused by engine power/ignition to the car being cut. I'm not sure what the best course of action is now or whether or not you can take it to a dealer with a partially full tank of e85.

Don't think there was any power loss when it happen while I was on the highway, engine was still running. Got home and restarted the car, everything seems to be fine for now.
