STI Add-ons or wait for aftermarket?

Got my BRZ order in last weekend and I'm super excited for my first BRZ/86.

Now taking a look at the add-ons, I think they look really good. I'm pretty certain I'm going to get the spoiler lip but I'm on the fence about the front lip. I think it looks great, but also a tad bit pricey.

One reason I switched to the BRZ is the huge aftermarket support, is it likely a bunch of lips will be available as soon as the car is released? How was it when the BRZ first released?

Just give it a few months before they add more to the STI line up or going aftermarket.

Within about a year the aftermarket sector will be flooded with knockoff sti lips and spoilers. If you want to wait I'll save some money for a part that will look just like oem.

In my experience the STI stuff is high quality. Little things on lips and stuff like expandable rubber mounts vs direct screw in etc. Not all of it is perfect though, on the WRX, the STI exhaust was known to drone and the STI short shifter wasn't that short.

The FR-S has a ton of aftermarket support when it comes to aero stuff as well, especially since they made a whole lot more due to the agreement between Toyota and Subaru.

Give it some time, there will be plenty of aftermarket stuff available for the 2nd gen in 12-18 months.

I’m really looking forward to the STI goodies from Subaru, and the GR stuff from Toyota. I think there will be a little more “friendly rivalry” between the two cars this generation.
TRD Japan also makes some really nice (and expensive) parts; but I wonder how much they will make for the GR86.

I second this, but sometimes getting some genuine STI parts will be appreciated in the long term.

A preliminary video from Japan for the muffler.
The owner states they are still breaking in the engine and will not rev it too high. Hopefully a new video will be out in the next few weeks with a proper launch.

I think the reason for the WRX droning with the STI muffler was the US model did not have a centre resonator, whereas in Japan it had the centre resonator. Assuming the product was designed for the Jap domestic market, I can see how this occurred.

Some STI parts are not made in Japan. This is quite common for the WRX and STI models. The BRZ exhaust is genuine though and it is the reason for the high price.

Yeah I felt the same when getting one for my first gen, they were about AU $2500 and I thought, yeah too much. Then I saw one on eBay for AU $1350, phoned the seller which was a local Subaru dealer clearing stock. Got it for AU $1150 fitted, absolute bargain, I couldn’t believe my luck. They are very well made, you do pay for what you get. Would I pay full price….maybe if you plan on keeping the car long term. Definitely a very cool part. The video posted earlier with the STI axle back sounds very similar to the first gen one I think.

It sounds good in that vid, hoping to see a video at full tilt as the first cars break in.
