My only info is what I read on here. FYI, my build date is January and I have never had the hyperflash issue.

Back in January I saw some pictures of a whole lot of a certain pickup truck and built and ready to go but waiting on seats. You don't get a much bigger QC issue than a truck with no seats!

Have you seen the price of milk crates lately? Nobody could afford them.

Wouldn’t it also have to do with the boxer engine design? The way it’s sealed I mean. Subaru and Porsche are really the only two companies using the boxer layout. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

Nope. Many other engines use sealant instead of gaskets now and many boxers still use gaskets. It all comes down to cost and time.

The only thing unique to the boxer is the layout. This does create a large timing cover that has to span the entire front of the engine, though I don't really see a traditional gasket doing a good job of sealing that either. In fact, I think it would be worse.

They have used actual gaskets on boxer engines forever. They are multipiece affairs' and can be fun to get in place (I have only done my old Corvair) but work just fine. Really easier to do than getting that perfect bead of sealant I am sure.

Yeah, we all know the real reason is less parts in the BOM and not having to stock gaskets on shelves.
