Liquid vinyl wraps?

Hey guys,

I was wondering what your opinions are on liquid vinyl wraps?
Something like they offer here: liquidcoatings.net
(Sorry, their website sucks and is even worse on mobile, but they're a local, small business who's owner I met briefly and is who I was thinking of going to.)

I ask because I'm thinking of wrapping my car, but don't know much about these liquid wraps. It doesn't appear to be plastidip, but it clearly isn't vinyl either. Does anyone have any experience with this stuff or any knowledge on it?

Good/bad? Stay away, or reasonable alternative to regular 3M Vinyl wraps?

Take a look on instagram and do a search on vinyl wraps. There's a handful of FT86 Hawaii club members have done vinyl & plasti dip wraps on their FRS/BRZ. One member just did a wrap where the colors change depend on what angle you look at the car. 3M would be good. Research on google too. Just my 2 cents!

Go to a plasti dip authorized dipper. A wrap will cost $3-5k+. A plasti dipped car would cost less than $1k and is just as good. If they use the new top coat it'll look and feel just like paint.

So I'm not asking for recommendations on wraps or plastidip.
I already know I don't want to do plastidip - Personal preference. It's just not my thing.

I also know that 3M is probably the best material for a traditional vinyl wrap, and that wraps are expensive.

I'm asking specifically on this new, liquid wrap spray stuff, and if anyone has experience or knowledge on it.

Wait, plasti-dip with a top clear coat isn't your thing, but liquid "vinyl" is? You know that's not actually vinyl right? Just checking.

I never said liquid vinyl was my thing. I'm literally asking to find out more about it and know if it has advantages over plasti-dip, or if I'd be dramatically better off with regular vinyl.

Plasti-dip just doesn't do it for me. I find it tends to look fine from distance, but not so great up close. Maybe advancements in Plasti-dip have been made over the years, but it doesn't tend to be my thing from what I've seen.

if plasti dip isnt your thing i suggest just getting your car wrapped liquid wrap (plasti dip, halo efx, auto dip, ect.} require a decent ammount of skill to apply sucessfully and provide better results and long term better for your factory paint. dip has a bad rap becaust people mess up jobs all the time

lmao, I'm so sorry dude. This is why I kind of hate asking for help online, elitists just start stating their opinions and what you should do instead, instead of actually trying to answer the question you asked.

I haven't seen it in person but I have looked at the videos on https://www.us.autodip.com who supposedly invented the process. I think I would do this before plastidip, but probably do a more traditional wrap first.

It reminds me of the stuff 3M sold for a while that you could do "peel off" stripes with on your cars. Basically a colored version of their Paint Defender product.

So you want to know the advantages and by extension the disadvantages of the product without discussion on the other options?

Mentioning the other totally viable products is somehow elitist? Questions can be answered without opinions being involved? The people that responded somehow were supposed to know that plastidip wasn't his thing? Only people that will say exactly what he expects to hear should speak up?

In this case, yes. I already know enough about Vinyl wraps and Plastidip to know my opinion/feelings on them.
I didn't ask about them; if I go into a store and ask "Can you tell me about rib-eye steaks?" I don't expect to get a response along the lines of, "Why don't you consider pork chops?"

Is there something wrong about asking about a specific product to know more about it? I attempted to do research on my own, couldn't find out much about it and came here to ask questions. I thought that's part of what this forum was for. Or am I mistaken?

You did not say that and since the people here are not mind readers. To offer opinions people compared it other items. If you walked into the butcher and asked hid
his opinion on steaks and they said they are ok but I prefer pork chops then you got an opinion.

Questions are great and many answered but since you didn't hear just what you wanted you got snarky. Not a great way to respond to people trying to help even if it isn't what you were after.

I didn't say "I'm not asking for information or opinions on vinyl & plastidip" because I thought it was implicit from the content of my original post. I clearly referenced both alternatives and simply asked if the liquid vinyl wraps were a viable alternative to traditional 3M wraps, which kind of implies that I already knew about 3M wraps does it not? I also referenced it "not being plastidip" which infers that I am also familiar with plastidip, no?

Now, if we go back and look what the first responses actually were, not one of them actually answered my question. I asked opinions on liquid vinyl and the first two replies were:

1. Look on Instagram at Vinyl wraps & plastidip.
(No mention of the liquid vinyl I'm asking about at all, so not really an answer to my question. Going back to the butcher analogy, there's a difference between the butcher replying, "They are OK, but I prefer pork chops" and "Here are some pork chops!" This was more akin to the latter. There was no information about the liquid vinyl wraps, just an alternative.)

2. Go get Plastidip. It will look just like a vinyl wrap.
This is the same as above. Zero mention of the liquid vinyl I'm asking about. It's a literal comparison of two things I didn't ask about. "Here are some chicken breasts. They're just as good as pork chops, but cheaper!" Again, no mention of steak.

Now, I didn't get defensive about this. I'm not chastising, nor feeling any particular type of way to these two responses, so I clarified my position and what I was asking for, to which I get a snarky reply about PlastiDip and Liquid Vinyl.

How the heck am I the one being snarky and rude? Because I asked a question, got two replies that were tangentially related at best, then clarified what I was trying to ask?
