Fact is the torque dip sucks. If there was a fix offered by the dealer for free everyone except lazy ass people would jump on it. It's not so much the lack of torque it's the fact that off idle the torque feels strong then falls off for a second or two them comes back on.

I love my FR-S. Hell I like driving it more than my 96 C4S. I didn't buy it because I wanted a fast car. I bought it because I wanted a daily driver that I could time attack every corner on my way to work like a D-Bag. Luckily everything else about the car offsets the dip issue.
Yea I had a MkV GTI DSG since new, it wasn't too big a deal from 5000 to 6500rpm as it revs thru that fairly quickly, but yea I just didn't feel like the car was accelerating hard anymore in that range so I would shift early. The Mk2 TT is quite a lighter car I think but I've never driven one. I've sat in one at the showroom and the seating feels a bit lower than the Golf at the lowest position.

The later model 3.4L C4S just revs up really quick from a dig it's quite impressive. It's just too fast for me to drive the piss out of it daily without landing in jail lol!

Would be interesting to test drive the new twin and see how it deals with the torque dip range.

The company said it was because it was a new cable and the more I use it the smell should go away. I am worried it might burn my ECU out though so I try not to use it much. Thanks for the update.

This should take care of the torque dip

That dyno was with full exhaust (JDL UEL, JDL 2.5 OP, JDL 2.5 HFC FP, and perrin catback), drop-in filter, and canned E85 tune on OFT. Now that I'm tuned by Moto-East on ECUtek I plan to go dyno again soon to compare.

Where we can't even have consensus on what level octane fuel to use even though it is clearly laid out in the manual!

The only fact involved on this subject is that there is indeed a torque dip. How much that dip impacts driving is all a matter of opinion. You have seen the wide range of opinion expressed here.
You really need to drive the car and form your own opinion or listening to everybody else is just a waste of time.

I enjoy AC on humid days. Is there a solution other than turning it off?

Based on the throttle position the AC will turn itself off. If you're flooring it onto the interstate, the AC compressor clutch disengages to remove the parasitic loss from the drivetrain.

If you're just driving around town, there's no real issue with having the AC on.

When I bought my car I had forgot they even existed and knew nothing about it. I stumbled across it while killing time in a Toyota dealership, looked it over, left a deposit and ran home and did some frantic research. Everywhere I went I read these guys saying "horrible torque dip", "no power for daily driving", "can't merge on the highway" and other horror stories. I decided I was going to have to get a supercharger to deal with all these shortcomings and earmarked $5K for the upgrades. Then I got the car and started driving. Saved myself $5K!!!!!

Excellent! Hopefully, I'll feel the same way. A SC is not in the budget. I see some owners change the FD ratio to improve performance. Under what conditions is it recomended? Thanks!

Oh, yes.

Just keep the revs up and it will scoot right along with the A/C on.

just keep the gear low and rpm up...it makes your car sound serious and people starting moving out of your way because they think you are driving angry and pushing on their ass

problem solved, no more torque dip
