Thought I’d update the group.
I ended up securing a 2023 Brz sport tech in WRB.
Looking forward to picking up the car next weekend.

Hello I’m new here and trying to figure out the mess that is Toyota allocation and ordering system…

After reading this thread and doing some research…

If I get this right…

My dealer (A) submitted an order for whatever configuration I wanted, but my dealer (A) will likely get allocations at random until they get one that matches my specs.

However if dealers B, C or D gets an allocation that matches my configuration, they’re allowed to either steal or swap it, assuming that nobody else at dealers B, C or D want the same configurations as I do and if they have high volume dealer privileges to be able to do so. (Dealer A is Vimont Toyota Laval)

I got an ETA for spring 2023, but with dealers swapping and stealing allocations, could it be coming faster? Or does the ETA account for said practices.

And I guess whatever’s posted in this thread by rustyoid are unclaimed allocations?

Thanks!

The rationale he gave for this makes a lot of sense from a dealer perspective, they don't want 20 orders on the books from customers who have deposits down at several dealers because they are trying to get their car ASAP, which will lead to many if not of a majority of their deals being cancelled and leaving the dealer stuck with incoming cars for which they may not have customers.

If you look at the OMVID page on refund policies in Ontario it makes no reference to a refund being a right if there is no VIN on the sales agreement. Here's what it says about buyer cancellation and deposit refund:
Exactly what I was told by mine.

Can anyone explain to me what a stock number is on a vehicle at a dealership? Does that mean the car is physically there?

I say this as someone who deals with a lot of dealers but not actually being from a dealer. I once worked at a dealer, but that was in the service side so my dealer experience here is totally irrelevant to this question.

What I've seen is the dealer stock number is the dealer's method of quickly identifying which unit is what without resorting to the long 17 digit VIN number. All I can say is the probability this dealer is receiving this specific unit is very high.

The problem with answering this question is all dealers utilize a different stock numbering scheme, this is individual. Are these assigned only for units the dealer has in possession? That could very well be the practice for most. What I don't know is whether there are dealers who assign stock numbers for incoming units that haven't landed yet. If the dealer you're dealing with does that...well there's a chance it might not be there yet.

Maybe Toyota issued a stop delivery and sale order to dealers while they solve the sealant problem…

For all we know, it's possible they already addressed this, and it's only a matter of time before the correction hits the market. I can't think of any automaker halting distribution of a vehicle for imperfections, be it mechanical or cosmetic (Tesla panel gaps for example).

Yard holds happen all the time. Probably way more often than can be imagined actually. They are usually for potential safety issues though. Cosmetic or more minor things will just be dealt with by the dealerships.
If there is a TSB sent for this issue I have little doubt we will hear about it before the dealer service departments do!
