The 5th to 3rd Shift

I do this all the time. Slowing down for whatever reason, works very well just skipping 4th on the way down.

Anyone else?

I skip gears a lot, I don't see an issue with it.

Double clutch to spin up the input side so you don't dump a boatload of heat into the third gear syncro.

Otherwise you are hastening the transmission's demise. That's why you never see pros skip gates. Spreads the heat.

I can't shift down without double clutching. I drove big rigs for many years.

I shift through every single gear every single time. No real reason for it other than habit really. I do make sure I get my 100% engagement factor though!

I never double clutched except to pass my CDL test. I always just floated them.

I hit every gear on the way down though I do rev match every time because manual elitism.

What's life without 100% engagement factor??? BTW, I short shift, miss gears going up if there's no real gain to be had.. And, when slowing, I brake and then select the gear to suit the speed.. I suppose that could be termed as 110% engagement factor....

I kinda get what you are saying, however, I have some mechanical sympathy! Always feel sorry for the 2nd gear and sometimes 3rd... And....And, my mechanical sympathy stretches to the lack of testing the launch control..
