Long term solution will be 4" to 3" coupler with intake piping to put the filter behind the bumper. But for now, anything other than open turbo is the goal, haha
FWIW I ran open turbo for a week and was just fine. Bumper blocks the debris xD

Well, something I had feared came to happen. Because JDL angles the flange, I can't get the turbo to drain and it's blasting oil out of the turbo seal into the exhaust.

I'm going to set up the oil scavenging pump to see if it puts enough vacuum on the CHRA to draw it through.
Not ideal at all. Eventually I will need someone to fix the angle of the manifold flange (or convert to v-band), but my guy is scheduling into late November.

Sorry for the sideways picture. Never know how this forum will deal with images..
Here's what I mean-

Set up the ol pump today. Made some new -an lines, tightened everything down. Just need to extend the harness for the pump an extra 3 feet and we'll see how it goes!

Ignore the hokey wiring, it was for the halos that are being re-done, I wanted to protect them while the car sat and only had those wire caps nearby

While the pump does work as anticipated (proper drain = no smoke) I don't have it in me to go forward with running the car with such a bandaid, it just doesn't make sense.

Only correct solution for this setup is vband so the oil drain can sit at the correct angle. I managed to get my hands on a TiaL Vband .82 housing. Ordered downpipe and header accompanying vband flanges.

I truly with I had just bought the turbo hot parts in this configuration to begin with. Now we have to chop up the beautiful JDL artwork... Oh well. Better than having the oil pump fail and causing aeration in the oil.

Yes, picture of the shiny housing

Little update- changed the exhaust flanges which went smoothly. The driver's side exhaust cam sprocket clacks around when VVT enables so we're going to replace it. Thought that maybe it was the break in oil but after pulling the oil and replacing it, replacing the OCV, and have resolved to just changing the sprocket. It only happens as soon as VVT enables so there are only so many things it could be. Ignore the drain line but pay attention to the angle- way closer to straight down than the to flange allows! One victory at a time. Another note- ignore the turbo guard, it'll have a proper filter on. Just don't want bugs or anything getting in there while it's outside

Here's some pre-vvt idling!

Update!

Took the front cover off to replace the sprocket- turns out that the bolts holding it to the cam had loosened. This was probably a reinstallation error on my part, or a freak accident. In either case, the others seemed fine so the sprocket has been replaced and it's ready to start break-in today

Edit:

Idling 15 min, no issues, spot on afr. No leaks, so excited

Working through break-in. Looking decent so far, 40 miles in!
Modified my Grimmspeed engine cover to fit, looks decent.

The TrueFocusFab crash bar requires a lot of modification to fit, much more than anticipated, mine is also off-center slightly, which may have something to do with it.

I'll do my best! They built an insulated dyno cell so I don't know how great audio will be, I'll definitely post videos of the car when I can.

You've got marriage to look forward to! You'll have time to do a build, it's worth the wait. Bucket lists are meant to be done gradually
