For what its worth, I came from a 2007 BMW 335 to the 2020 BRZ (now sold, waiting on my 2022 Neptune Blue GR86 in about 2 weeks). The paint/clearcoat on the BRZ seemed noticeably worse (from a longevity standpoint) and more brittle than the BMW. I never even attempted a brush on that car (and won't on this one) - but I would be very worried about swirls given that the clearcoat/paint appears to not have nearly as much resilience as other cars I have had in the past.

FYI, others on the forum have blamed it on current environmental regulations rather than Subaru/Toyota being cheap. I don't really care about the cause, I just know that I am going to have treat this paint with kid gloves.

Wonder what the paint thickness is compared to other Toyotas and Lexus

I’m on the same boat but destiny has spoken because my dealer was allocated the white first without any sight of a Neptune coming…

Those were my two colors. The blue is fun but I keep my cars for at least a decade. White is the color I won't get tired of or regret.

I had a 2017 Halo 86 until I traded it in for a similarly coloured 2022 BRZ. I thought of changing colours - maybe silver or grey - but always came back to white. Japanese sports cars should be white.

White shows off a car’s lines the best because it provides the clearest contrast the wheel arches/tyres, and the glasshouse (especially once tinted). Whether or not this is a good thing depends on the car’s styling and proportions - quite simply, attractive sports cars look great in white, ugly cars will look terrible because the ugliness will be on full display. Dark colours (black especially) are an ugly car’s best defence.

Yeah that’s why I went with Satin White Pearl for my BRZ. Love FD RX7s in white and Integra Type Rs too, see below.

I must admit Steel (silver/grey) should get an honourable mention too, especially on the 2nd gen.
