It is really all about coasting and shifting at 2.5k or less. The more your foot is on the gas and the higher the rpm you shift at the more fuel you will use.

I shifted under 2K when it was safe to get to 400 miles on my normal commute. Funny how you can do 30% better by being "nicer". Current tank is at around 25MPG doing same commute, but enjoying the roar of the TRD exhaust a lot more
![]() With gas being this cheap it doesn't really matter. 7.5c/mile vs. 10c/mile is not going to break the bank, plus these cars are meant to be enjoyed. Good to know it can be a gas sipper if need be, though. Bigger pain is insane markup on premium gas. used to be 25-30c difference per gallon, now it's 50-60c/gal. Nutters.

If you're worried about mileage get a Prius and quit whining. My 911 TT had a tiny tank and a couple of major jolts and you could just plan on finding a gas station. It blows me away that people buy sports cars and worry about F'in mileage

@TommyW, I wouldn't say I worry about it, but it is something I track for all my vehicles. For me, its like having my blood pressure checked. It is an indicator of the health of your vehicles. If it changes, its something to consider as a point of information, and maybe a warning signal. It is a "performance factor" and just as reasonable with a sports car as is monitoring 0 to 60 times and noticing if they changed. Of course, your mileage may vary....

I just like playing the "let's get not horrible mpg while running e85" game. So far the results are what should be expected

So swerve round the mother and pram instead ![]() More seriously, it's about planning and anticipation. If a set of lights goes amber/red 200 yards ahead, clutch it and free wheel so they get to green again before you get there. If you have speed, downshift (without the blip) to get engine braking, which will cut the injectors off. (You might want enough brake pedal to put the brake light on if being followed). Avoid having to brake as much as possible. You can seriously piss people behind off though. There is a video somewhere from TopGear where Clarkson went from London to Glasgow and back on a single tank in an Audi (A6 might have been). Something like 800 miles on a tank. He had to work hard for it.

I was actually able to test this a few weeks ago coming back from Reno, NV. Majority of it was downhill and i made it 250ish miles on a half tank surprisingly. And I also drove around town very conservatively and did some freeway driving and actually got 408 miles to the tank, needle flat. I just got above 36mpg. AT btw.

It was mentioned earlier in the thread that it's not a huge impact but after dropping about 24 lbs from my wheels, I immediately added about another 1.5 or so MPG.
And if anything after the new wheels I drove even harder so it wasn't a change in driving habits that increased the MPG. |

400 miles per tank is very doable. The most I've ever gotten was 430 mpt. Two weeks ago I ran out of gas for the first time ever and got 408 miles to that tank.
I typically average between 31-33 mpgs running 90 octane, 100% premium gasoline, at *ahem* various speeds. My commute is mostly freeway, though. Worst mileage ever was running e10 blend around Nashville New Years. Think I only averaged about 26-28 mpgs. |

I drove over 40 miles on the fuel light and still only filled up at 11.7 gallons. One day I'll do a mileage run with a 5 gallon tank in the back, I'm planning a trip from Washington to Minnesota in the summer so I'll probably do it then.
