Rail dust/clay bar experiences?
Many Subaru owners could show you a very dirty piece of clay bar after treating their brand new rides.
Have any BRZ/FRS owners tried any type of paint correction processes? (clay specifically) I am interested in this car's paint condition and quality especially given some other lackluster cars being produced. Thanks in advance for the insight. |

I bought a white civic that was rail transported from Canada.
The thing was RIDDLED with rail dust. Given that it was white I could see each tiny spec. It took close to three hours of claybarring to get it all out. If you have just about anything other than flat white chances are you won't come close to removing it all if indeed your car is shipped via rail, just be thorough otherwise. |

When we detail we offer a treatment with Iron-x. It takes off the sintered iron off of paint. Sprays clear and when it takes off the deposit it turns purple. Heres a shot of how it looks With a dirty wheel
Contact me if you are interested in some. It works great and is sold in regular spray bottle or gallon sizes. |

I've only used a clay bar with the wetting spray.
Keep the surface wet while using the clay bar. Make sure to fold the clay after each application and throw it after it gets really dirty. I haven't used the Iron X stuff, but it looks interesting. I didn't know about "rail dust" until I had a white car. |

Use a mild claybar (I use the meguiars blue claybar) and a good lubricant (I use dodo juice born slippy). Rail dust is notorious on a lot of new cars out here on the east coast, and really shows on white car. Rail dust is pretty obvious but if you're not sure if you need a clay (although you should clay before any wax job) find a friend who smokes and take the cellophane wrapper from the pack of cigarettes, put your index and ring finger inside and gently run your fingers across the surface of the paint. I don't know why but the cellophane amplifies the feeling of any contaminants in the paint. Hope this helps.

Thanks everyone for the tips; Ive successfully clay'd plenty of times.
My OP question is about the experiences of THIS car and its 'new' paint condition. |
