Is it just me or has this car greatly grown on me?

First I didn’t like it. I own a 2014 86 at the moment. After seeing more videos of it in person. I actually have that feeling of wanting to trade my car for one of these now 🤣 what do you guys think? What’s your opinion on the new design?

I think the first gen looks better but hey, looks can be modified.
The important thing is it has the formula (rwd, light, manual).

all hail the formula!

The pre face lift 86 (2012-2016) is definitely a model that I feel can’t be beat. It’s a perfect car. But at the same time. The new gr86 is that modern face lift of it that improves the best parts of the car with some extra features. Understandable thst people don’t like the new less aggressive look. It’s definitely nice though

I liked the GR86 from the debut. The front end looks better than 1st Gen and the 2nd Gen BRZ. The back end is pretty generic but it isn't bad. Just doesn't stand out.

I definitely miss the iconic angry headlights from the original design, but otherwise am very excited about the improvements throughout the new version.

I really like Toyota version of the 2nd Gen. BRZ, it’s pretty blah.

Actually I have a city car, I’ve been waiting this step up for a long time.
So, to me gr86 is something like an airplane

I’m just a little thorn with a 2seat miata. But gr86 it’s too much better about versatility.

Everyday I’m here hoping on some good news but they come with the dropper.

About opinions on car body, absolutely we have to see it live. Look at Mazda3: live it looks like another car. in photos the perception of some proportions is wrong

It's grown on me, especially the rear. I'm looking forward to owning one in a few years, after special editions start coming out.

I only feel 50/50 on this. Steering wheel controls can be removed and relocated. Sure the older gauges are nice but we can't seriously say the speedometer one is ever looked at, it's practically useless. Only the tach is really usable.

It is just you!
If a car has to "grow on you" than it just means you have rationalized the things you didn't like in your own way. That is fine but it won't happen to everybody.
In my eyes it remains a conglomeration of design cues that just don't fit together as a package. This results in the unfinished body kit appearance that bothers my sensibilities. Seeing it in person or watching more videos is not going to change that for me.

I agree. Not a fan. But it’s not bad and many will buy one. I have been through this many times before. Still think my blobeye and the bug eye were the best for the WRX/STI. Yes they were quirky or awkward but time has shown that they stand out the best. GC as well. The later years could be a Mazda or Corolla you can’t tell until they are close.
