Honestly, in using it a couple of hours last night, there really isn't a whole lot of difference between 10 and 11. Even Control Panel is intact at this point. Yes, the corners of windows are a little more rounded, there is some transparency between windows, and the start menu shows more apps without you having to customize it, but there's nothing that makes you go "what the f@$k".

The only thing so far is I can't figure out if there is a way to make the task bar use small icons. I could always go back to hiding it (that's what I did in W7) but I've gotten used to it being persistent with small icons in W10.

If anything W11 gets rid of some of the inconsistencies where some things looked one way and some looked the other.

Hiding the task bar is gross. I've had inconsistent experiences with that shit while gaming, never again.

Neat. I have noticed that even with a 3GB/s drive the CPU is a much greater bottleneck. I’m seeing very minor improvements over SATA SSDs. Direct storage should help here though.

At this point I’m just waiting for NVMEs to become affordable in the 5-7GB/s read speed range. That’s what the current consoles are designed around, so a lot of games/engines will be designed for that this generation, even with direct storage.

As part of my Windows 10 rebuild/Windows 11 conversion I was able to get XBox Game Pass for $1 for a month. Problem is I think I already own everything on Game Pass I'd have any interest in playing!

Oh well, so much for that idea.

Sort of PC Game related...

I got a copy of "Oregon Trail - Card Game" for Father's Day. We've played it a couple of times now. It is truly as brutal as the video game. You play 10 rounds of 5 cards. One member of the party has to get all the way to Oregon to win.

In our first game, of our party of four, one died on the very first play from a snake bite. The next party member died of starvation in round 4.3. I went down hard from dysentery in round 8.4, leaving MomHawk to fend for herself on the trail. She made it to 9.3 within site of the goal, before drowning.

The reviews on Amazon are pretty harsh but all I can say is if you go into it with a sense of humor and nostalgia it was a lot of fun. As a family we have a tendency to (good naturally) rag on folks when playing games anyway, so that added to the fun.

I got gamepass a while ago where they let you upgrade your remaining Xbox gold to gamepass for a dollar. So I got 3 years of it for the cost of gold.

Sadly I have run onto the same conundrum. Everything on gamepass isn’t interesting to me. I played the Witcher 3 and nier automata last year but after that it sort of dried up as far as interesting titles goes. I tried control, but after 8 hours in the last 4 months I just am not interested in finishing it.

Figured out the small Taskbar. You have to do a registry hack this point, Adding TaskbarSi = 0 to Explorer/Advanced. Works like a champ.

Did anyone else watch the fan made NFS: Underground 2 remaster trailer. It was so beautiful.

It was.

Sadly, between the licensed music, cars, and licensed aftermarket equipment from companies that are long gone, we’ll never see a remaster. They may do a remake like they tried twice for MW, but that’s probably all we’re getting. And if the franchise’s track record since 2008 is anything to go by, it’ll likely be crap anyway.

The closest thing we got was Need For Speed (2015). Which was good, but was lacking a few things and they didn't really update it as much as they should.

It still has the way too arcadey handling that started with most wanted and got progressively worse. U2 had the best car physics in NFS IMO.

When I discovered BeamNG.Drive I stopped playing other racing games. Thanks to modders there a lot of great cars you can download and they're made really well. The way cars handle there is closest to the real thing compared to other games I've played, like AC, etc. Be it grip driving, drifting, or rallying.
