No, I'm saying, like the spring recall, its something you can do, but it may not really be worth it unless there is a specific thing (like gaming) that may benefit from it.

11 ???

They always seem to introduce new things in the new releases and then take what works and mix it with the older release.
IE What worked in 8 Was mixed with what was good about 7 and we got 10.
The irony is that they skipped 9 to try avoiding some of the bad juju.

And I'm definitely not in love with 10. I would have kept 7 if they continued updates.

Too many 'intelligence' and 'connectivity' features baked in at the OS level trying to be everything to everyone. 11 seems to expand on that in a direction I'm not sure I want or need.

I'm starting to seriously investigate going over to Linux for everything...

More accurate IMO:

98 Great
2k great
ME Horrible
XP Great
Vista Great actually, but horrible on low end hardware. OS was too far ahead of it’s time
7 GREAT, just vista 1.1 really
8 Horrible
8.1 great
10 Horrible and rushed at first, fixed ~ 10 months later
11 it’s really an update to 10, not a reboot so I expect no big problems.

I would agree, except for the current requirement for TPM and secure boot, which only a very small percentage of users (and almost 100% of home users) do not have enabled.

I agree that it will be a stumbling block for upgrading. It wasn’t as straightforward as I’d like on my motherboard, but it wasn’t terrible. I think it’s a necessary step for Microsoft to achieve parity with MacOS’s security, and it sets expectations for hardware partners going forward. It will probably do a decent job of keeping low end hardware off W11, avoiding some of the Vista/early W10 problems.

I discovered the MSI Rtx 3080ti Ventus 3x will fit in my NZXT H1 with a tight fit. Now I have something to save for!

You may have already, but did you get the revised riser cable that doesn’t cause fires? Or at least get some nylon screws for it.

I just ziptied the riser cable as I bought mine with a heavy discount during NZXT's hiatus.

Zip ties are strong enough lol, sounds like a good fix with a nice discount on the H1

Fortunately, it was an easy enough recovery as I have a separate OS drive, just had to repartition and reinstall Windows, well and every program I had installed. Interestingly, Steam and Epic recovered fine since I had their libraries on a separate drive.

The W10->W11 conversion should be interesting. I'm going to recommend to family the same thing I recommend to 2013 FRS/BRZ owners about the spring recall, yea you can do it, but is it really worth the risk? You're likely to buy a new computer before its an issue in 2025.

Gamers will probably want to upgrade eventually though as there are several enhancements for games.
Would not call this a brick if it was recoverable.

W11 looks okay. It will be new and I like new things, so I'll be an early adopter.

Well, yea technically you are correct but it didn't even see my drives until I reinstalled Windows and repartitioned them. There's not a whole lot that will truly brick a PC.

I order from them all the time. Their estimates always look like that at first, then it shows up on your doorstep in under a week. With the chip shortage though, no telling.

On the commercial side, we are seeing about a 2 week delay from order to shipment.
