I hate to say, I've been told many time over the years that there is not a single bread of dog that will shit/piss where they sleep on purpose. Once they do, for whatever reason, you lost the battle. Wish I had some words of wisdom to help. My advice spike should be to get professional help.

Edit: sorry , I just read your long post where he hasn't gone in his crate. Good news. Keep taking him out more, always say "potty" or whatever word you want when he does go outside, so he learns on command " now is the time". Keep working at it. It will get better.

But the vet yesterday told me not to allow that at all because even one dog could have a bug even though parvo is fairly low-risk here.

So back to somehow doing indoor poo training (fortunately he mostly uses pee pads correctly).

I ordered this piece of grass, which should be helpful to put on the balcony. But it won't arrive for a few more days...
i won't ever own a puppy. did that once. newspapers everywhere, and my parents still have furniture that has chewing marks all over it.

That's the problem though. He's 9 weeks old. Breeder said he had sufficient first round of vaccines to be able to go out on the grass near my building as long as he didnt interact with other dogs. So we were doing that the past four days. But the vet told me yesterday at Haru's first check-up that he should not go outside, period, till 18 weeks (third round of shots is at 16 weeks and they don't fully activate till 18).

So now until the grass thing comes for my balcony, I just have to pick up after him. Sadly sometimes he does well with the pee pads and sometimes pees like right next to them, lol.

But I know he's a puppy and most of this is normal.

He only has peed in the crate bed once and I _think_ it was more like he wet the bed while sleeping. Washed the blanket he sleeps on and no problem.

Also, he pooped for a 2nd time today, totally normal looking and whatnot. Not ideal location but oh well. It was on a cheap rug carpet from Target that I use to wipe my feet on when I come in from the balcony, so I'm not even that worried about that. Easy to replace. Better that than the actual carpet on the floor.

He is definitely a handful. Honestly what bothers me the most is when he's overtired because then he gets SUPER bitey and sprints everywhere, so it's difficult to keep him still. Which makes it tricky to put him down for a nap in the playpen or crate.

I'm trying to do enforced naps (1 hour up, 2 hours down) and it mostly works, but it just gets tricky sometimes because I've barely had him a week and haven't really gotten him to learn "stop" or whatever yet.

Good news is he's mostly learned sit now (when I have his full attention at least lol).

Aussie shepherd? Blue merle? (I'm not 100% at identifying tho so could be wrong)

i believe the correct term is 'zoomies'
https://www.akc.org/expert-advice/li...t-are-zoomies/

i can't recall any one i know trying to enforce naps on their dog unless they were on the wrong sleep cycle and trying to stay up all night. my experience is that dogs, especially puppies don't really sleep when they're told, that's more of a 'learn to stay in one spot' skill that comes later..

it sorta sounds like you just need to play with him to wear him out more-- if you're not going outside the apartment at all, that would drive most dogs nuts, especially a new puppy with more energy(NEW NEW EVERYTHING'S NEW!!!!!!!) then they know what to do with.

now might be a good time to go to a park and run around with him, followed by some socializing at a home depot, should wear him out very quickly

Lol or "Shiba 500", @ichitaka05 probably knows a thing or two about that.

Nah we're playing a LOT. I have a bunch of toys, we do tug of war and such, then he'll spend 20-30 minutes chewing them, wrestling with them, etc. We also have practiced some command stuff. Usually he'll start yawning, look like he's about to lay down to sleep, and then start running around when he knows he has my attention.

And like I said, can't go out

I would listen to the breeder and take him in the grass.

One thing about dogs. They were bred for hundreds of not thousands of years to do a specific job. Like my shepherds, bred to attack, protect, and guard. It's in their dna. You can't expect to get one and expect them to be something they are not. You need to learn to work with it.

I think there's a major difference between sharing a (assuming)5'x5' section of grass with a dozen-plus other dogs, and running through a 20 acre park of grass with him.

For that, I can understand your vets apprehension to too much other dog bathroom activity in a small area. Which is why I suggest the park. Lots less dog bathroom activity per square foot, so the vets concern should be negated.

And you can never play enough with a puppy!

If you figure out how to bottle that boundless energy, I'll take 2 bottles!

There is nothing about sushi I like, but that's mainly because I can only eat seafood as the good Lord and my Mother intended, breaded and pan or deep fried, served with hush puppies and coleslaw. There are a couple of exceptions (shrimp I can eat steamed or broiled, but still prefer fried, tuna and shark are good as steaks but not raw/rare, crab steamed, but I can't eat it)
