I'm interested in going this Saturday. How are AAS events typically run? I've only been to BMWCCA events.

AAS and SCCA are definitely different than BMW, if you read everything on AAS website you'll get a bit of an idea of how the day runs.

The tl;dr is show up, find a parking space (near other cars is usually a safe bet, unload and prep car when you have time, before or after you register), find the registration table (ask where it is, it's your first time at crow's), hand them $50 and make sure you get a tech inspection/safety form, fill out the registration card and sign up for work assignment, take it back to your car put it on the windshield with the tech sheet, line up your car in the proper grid, pop the hood for tech inspection and make sure it happens before you run, walk the course, get ready to work or drive, flip, go home.

^ signed up for day 1, figure if it's as great as everyone says I can do day 2 in the spring, they usually hit Marina in the Spring and the Fall every year.

I think Lotus club would be a better event for first timers, Evo school would be "I need to drive faster and can drop $275+expenses on a day of instruction"

Doubt it. A first timer is likely unaware of even basic concepts like how to brake properly. I don't think it's productive to dive head first into a typical autocross event without development of those basic concepts, especially with how little seat time there typically is. According to their registration page: "This Autocross Training program is great for any skill level, from seasoned veterans to the complete novice".

You typically get 5 runs. You can choose to work/run in the morning (Groups 1 and 2), or work/run in the afternoon (Groups 3 and 4). It's $50 to participate. If you want more runs, you have two options that require you to show up to the morning groups:
- Pay $20 to use the TnT course as much want in the afternoon. The TnT course is maybe 30 second course at most.
- Pay $25 for afternoon runs (i.e., fun runs)

Still a ton of events to make the rest of the year, AAS/SCCA can be show up, pay money, and drive, no messing about as long as your car isn't in a dangerous state of maintenance.

Thanks, parts ordered, shop estimates about 2 weeks from now unless something takes too long to arrive. It'll have to go under the knife, cut out the rear panel and weld in a new one, but after browsing online for a used replacement car there's pretty much only one car I'd consider buying and it's already prepped and I'd have a bunch of parts to get rid of at a big loss right now, so I'm not too upset about surgery on my car to keep it on the road.

Edit: Enough about my problems, very interesting things after skimming the results of AAS/SFR and a touch of social media stalking, new DS contender next year from Annie? Wong in a Camaro?

Not sure if you guys are already familiar with this little site, but a coworker (who AutoXs) that moved here from the East coast shared it with me recently... it's an excuse generator for why you sucked...

The last two Crows Landing SFR SCCA events of the year are 11/4 and 11/5

Pre-registration for both days and the run group order for 11/4 can be found here: http://www.sfrautox.com/?page_id=162

Run group order for 11/5 is rotated one group forward from 11/4

I did Evo School phase 1 last weekend, I really think you should have a few local autox events under your belt, imho you should understand how to drive a course without getting a DNF at a bare minimum, you don't need a top notch instructor to start pushing your car at local events but I think paying the extra money for the EVO School instruction when you're still learning the absolute basics is a waste.

I'm sure if I had done it within my first year of autox-ing it would have been a huge leg up and I'd be much better now for it. But I wouldn't want to do it without 2-3 events under my belt.

20 runs on the same course with two excellent autoxers setting times in your car and riding along critiquing you can be totally worth it. You can get that experience yourself for sure, but to have a few months or even years worth of experimentation concentrated into one day is certainly a value added proposition.
