exhaust and headers....tunings required? PLEASE HELP
Hey so I have a 2013 fr-s manual. I am looking at installing borla equal length headers, a greddy evo cat back exhaust system and a greddy cold air intake.
Two questions: This is my first mechanical project on the cat anyone do this set up or gave tips? Secondly, will my car require tuning after these changes are made, I use the car about 3 times a week so decent daily driver and I am unsure if the mods will make it unstable. |

Advice: Check out the DIY section of the forum. All of the mods you are thinking of have examples there.
Tuning: The only mod that would really require a tune is the header change. I'm assuming you are going catless. The CAI might need the MAF scaled, but depending on where you get your tune done it might be included as part of that. Cat back does not benefit from tuning. |

Well for now I'm just doing the headers and leaving the oem cat alone, ill deal with that later if I chose to. For now just the headers and the cat back everything in between is stock

The stock header has a cat in it.
After a while 50+ miles you'll probably get a check engine light if you don't get a tune. Not to mention you'll run leaner than you probably should. Your car won't immediately explode or anything, but it will run better and safer with a tune. |

Oh wow I did not realize the cat was directly in the headers I thought it was later on in the line.

We have a two cat system. There is a cat in the header and a second one downstream in the mid-pipe IIRC.

Wow ok might be better for me to just scrap the headers for now unless I find one with cat and just do the exhaust until I'm ready to get it tuned etc.

if you aren't ready to get a tune with the header you'll be far better off replacing the catback and front pipe (which houses the second cat) and leaving the rest stock. no CEL and no tune needed.

if I replace the front pipe, can I get one without the second cat and not need tuning, or can you get an aftermarket one with cat system

Correct. If you buy a catless front pipe, a tune will not be needed. You can also buy one with a cat.

Not sure what your goals with the mods to the exhaust are, but note that almost all of the power comes from removing the cat in the header and getting it tuned. You will change the sound by replacing the rest of the exhaust but the power gains will be marginal.

If you don't care about performance and just sounding fast/nice, get an aftermarket Catback etc. If you are interested in performance, look into getting a header/tune: such as the Open flash tablet // Open Flash Header combo. http://www.openflashtablet.com/Autom...OFH/index.html One of the best upgrades you can do to this car for $1K, that alone will nearly remove the torque dip and you can further remove the dip by switching to E85 fuel.
