Well I could run down and have one or walk down and have them both!

The auto is easy in traffic and at the track. It can take more torque without breaking. An auto is great when you want to go fast in a straight line and have enough power to make up for the driveline loss from a torque converter.

The auto also second-guesses you and is less involving to drive. Like old Miatas, the auto will likely not hold its value as well. The auto gets no respect. One of the most common questions I get after people find out what car I have is whether or not it's a manual.

Every time I've bought an auto, I've pined for a manual. With the manual, I do not pine for the auto, except in the rare occasions when I'm in stop and go traffic and heading uphill.

Driving an automatic is very convenient in heavy traffic and stop and go. Although, if you drive a manual and get used to it, that advantage that the automatic has won't be a problem.

get whatever you want. the auto is slower with better fuel economy (both are relatively slow).
I have an auto. the manual mode with the shifter doesn't feel bad. its pretty responsive.

People who badmouth automatic transmissions are out of line. It's not very nice to make fun of the kid who needs training wheels or the old guy who has to ride a trike because he can't stay up on two wheels. Some people need a bit of help with the things the rest of us take for granted, and that's O.K.

Weird how the newer training bikes are faster than people who ride the old school ones too

Debate's never going to be settled but my opinion. Came back from 12 hour work shift and shifting the manual was a pain, next day was another 12 hour shift. Hill starts are evil. I feel like I can relax driving an auto. And second, at least for the 86, the auto settles at a lower RPM than the manual at highway speeds which is bit quieter and more fuel efficient.
Any of the two would be fine. I still took the manual. But if it was a good DCT, I'd be a flip of the coin.

I see the autos are only for women/sissies crowd is openly suffering with their sds or "small dong syndrome"...

Good thing I don't let my transmission choice affect the size of my dong

I own both autos and manuals, and guess what...I paid for them...so who cares what other people say, drive both transmissions and get what suits your life

I feel like I can relax driving a 1972 Buick Riviera.

The BRZ doesn't really make me want to relax.

Buying an automatic FR-S or BRZ for speed is like adding extra tomato to a mayo-slathered Triple Whopper to make it healthier. Either one misses the point.

If you want healthy, eat a salad. If you want speed, buy any of a few dozen cars that are faster. Hell, my Cherokee is faster than this thing. In a straight line, at least.

We ran Streets of Willow two Saturdays ago.

2nd fastest of the day (and faster than @CSG Mike!) was Taka Aono in Moto Miwa's AUTOMATIC FRS on Nitto NT-01.

This is a tired argument. None of the above "proper" sports cars can be had with a manual transmission.
Don't take it personally, what I mean is that this is one of those cars that deserves to be driven with a manual, just like the cars you listed above. I wish they came in manuals as well. Do you drive stick personally?

A little cat and mouse, chasing after Emerson's red FR-S in my white Club4AG FR-S at the Streets of Willow Springs. Taka kindly letting Emerson pass before the bank, just as how things should occur on a casual track day, and ensuring safety over all else.
My car is on RSR Club Racer suspension, Auto in Sport mode, VSC/TRC off, Cusco RS LSD, Nitto NT01 235/45-17, Winmax W3 brake pads, and few simple mods on a fully laden stock NA car for the most part, no engine upgrades. Taka Aono at the wheel and posting 1.28.899 on his best lap eventually, while mine was at 1.29.869. Not too bad for a fun day and final event fun for Winmax 86 Cup Yes, it's slightly slower than a similarly setup manual, but with enough skills you can push an FRS similarly with paddle shift AT or 3 pedal manual for loads of fun! And FUN is what FRS/BRZ is all about above all else.
