The typical ones have eight different pitches cut into them. I have one imperial and one metric.

Wire brushes don't get down into the thread. External threads are found plenty of places where replacement is impossible.

exactly what i was going to say. i've got some pre-harbor freight tap and die sets-- same quality, probably the same factory, but different name.

i've snapped a few, and de-threaded a few others, thanks to the quality.

they're not much better than for chasing threads!

Really? I went through roughly 20~25 bolts & 10~15 nuts. Not one hiccup

cleaning threads is very different than cutting threads. i was cutting

it also helps to have a firm grasp of the thread pitch and size(which i didn't at first)... though the quality of the set i have, an official m6x1.5 is more like a 5.65x1.49 internal, and a 6.13x1.49 external...

'I'm not a thread chaser' says the guy who posts in literally all the threads.

Ok I paraphrased. And maybe not ALL the threads, just like 90%.

Probably fewer than 50% actually. I have my favourite subjects that I post to but many many subjects that I have zero interest in and don't even read. The truly scary part is that I have read hundreds of posts for every one I have made.

Well, first off, there won't be anything (except air) in the hole left by the head bolt after you take it out. Now, if something gets in there, because someone is sloppy, if you screw a tap into the hole the tap isn't gonna bring it out - it will just smash it further into the hole.

However, I would agree with the compressed air - but just start and finish with that. Of course, if you did see yourself drop something in the hole, fish it out first.
