TRD Lightweight Flywheel & Racing Clutch

Hi Everyone,

I see that TRD makes a 40% lighter one-piece flywheel for the FR-S and a racing clutch (looks like the Exedy Stage 2) for the Japanese market. When I contact Toyota dealers in the USA, they say they cannot order TRD parts from the Japanese division of Toyota. When I call Toyota corporate they likewise said the same thing. I don't personally comprehend how a company is unable to speak to other parts of itself or order parts from itself, but hey that's the complicated world of Toyota I guess? I never had this problem with any Nismo parts from Japan being ordered from US dealers.

Does anyone know where I can get access to these parts? The price on them is very competitive. Anyone here from Japan or work at a dealership in Japan? I think these parts are also available in Australia.

But the question is, is it worth it? Is it that much of an upgrade?

It's never a question of "Do I need it?", but always a question of "How bad do I want it?"

I think that's the question just about everyone on here asks.

I have a Fidanza for my build at 10.3lbs
Probably will end up with a ACT.
IMO having a TRD/Exedy Clutch and Flywheel is silly your paying for a sticker that says TRD. The parts are just private labeled. So if someone brags about having TRD clutch and flywheel the response should be. Oh you have an overpriced Exedy

like I care about a lowly three digit price difference for an add on to a five digit luxury item.

Exedy makes stock clutches for a lot of Japanese auto manufacturers and they have great quality. The TRD flywheel is actually about $100 cheaper than the Exedy flywheel, which is why I am considering it as they are both about 12.5lbs. Likewise the Exedy version of the clutch is $600 on ebay... The TRD version is about $600 shipped from Japan. All in all I would save about $50 if I got the TRD clutch vs the Exedy one after shipping. I'm not looking for bragging rights or stickers - I just want the best price on what I consider to be "the same clutch".

I bought LRD LWFW from japanparts, there are some other sellers in Japan, probably a bit cheaper too. I am running it with OEM clutch and it is definitely worth it (the flywheel, I am not sure about the rest).

Late reply but important for people to understand...

Just because Nissan allows Nismo parts to be imported doesn't mean the same applies to other companies. JDM STi parts are not available to order from Subaru of America dealers.

TRD Japan (Toyota Technocraft) operates more like Toyota Motorsport GmbH (TMG) in that they are an independent arm of Toyota. TRD USA is fully under the control of Toyota Motor Sales USA.

And by this extension, TRD USA parts are often rebranded or OEM manufactured for the US market w/ warranty support. TRD Japan parts do not carry the same warranty, thus the inability to import and sell.
