What's Your 2nd Gen Mod Path?

So now that some of us have racked up some miles in our 2nd Gen, what do you feel your mod path will be to make a good thing better?

Appearance, handling, sound, performance, etc...

And to what extent? Few hundred on chassis stiffening or appearance mods. Or big dollar 'builds' that are more transformational?

Really curious to see what everyone's thoughts are on what areas they feel are lacking, and to what extent.

On my first gen I did headers, tune, coilovers, rear LCAs, and some bushings. Oh and JDM exhaust tips.

Once spring/summer hits here I'm going to get some camber bolts and probably call it a day.

Fun thread - looking forward to reading other replys.

I've got mine broken out into three phases:

The In Progress
  • 949racing 6UL's 17x8 + Falken RT660 225/45 + SPC camber bolts + EBC Yellows + hacked gt3 brake ducts with trimmed dust shields
  • Schroth Rallye 3 ASM + 949racing steering wheel extender + Cusco throttle pedal extension + Lathewerks angled shifter extension
  • Weir Performance 4.875 FD + Greddy diff cover + Cusco axle boot shields
  • Subaru STI engine and transmission mounts + STI BRZ gen2 Sport Springs (maybe... worried it'll all be too stiff)
  • Jackson Racing dual rad/oil cooler (when available)
  • Delicious Tuning e85 kit (when available)
Estimated cost ~$7,300

So far, feels like factory, aiming to keep it that way. I'm iffy on the mounts springs being too stiff - would like a little more feedback though. Goal is to go sub-44 at the local kart track (Adams) with this setup and still have a reasonable daycare drop off taxi. I'm currently 46.8 with a 200lb passenger.

Individually I love the parts in this list, heck I daydream about them. But collectively I think this'll turn a factory screwed together car feeling into a backyard special. Been there with prior builds, there's that distinct turning point when the car starts feeling like a [never ending] project. I don't want to repeat that but I'm sure tempted to nab a few items though... the AP/Ohlins/IRP combo would be killer!!! Maybe I should call this 'the if it goes on sale' list.

I am pretty new to the whole sports car thing so I dont have any crazy plans yet. Plus I blew a lot of money buying this car so kinda want to take it easy and minimize my purchases at least for couple of years.
Another reason for taking it slow is I am very new to autocross, last summer was my first season where I did 5 sessions so definately looking forward to warmer days and the beginning of our 2022 autocross season. But I also realize a rwd car will be a learning curve for me, so I just wanna start learning on a completely stock car and maybe I will add small mods one by one. I think that would be the best route for learning performance driving and enjoying the car for a long time.

I have installed Subaru mudflaps and ordered the MTC clutch spring

So far I for sure want to do a tint, probably in May when it really warms up.
Next up would probably be OEM camber bolts and find a place who know what they are doing and willing to get as much camber as possible, but I wanna get some sessions under my belt in a completely stock car first.

Long term I want exhaust for sure, probably Invidia N2 or Q300. Havent really decided for sure, but that will probably happen in 2023 if everything goes ok.

After the stock Premacies go will look into 200tw tire, I am not sure when that will happen.

Thats pretty much all my plans for now, havent really thought beyond that

300+ tw trackable tires on wider wheels
trd door stabilizers
factory crash bolts, max neg camber
tint all around plus windshield
headlight films
gr86 splash guards
cheater gas pedal
jdm tips
led dome light bulbs
higher temp pads/fluid

near future:
quiet catback plus catted/resonated over pipe/front pipe combo
coilovers vs yellows/bilstein/pedders
oil cooler - only if needed

when available:
properly developed headers (likely EL)
tune for 91 octane (no 93 or e85 available locally)

not in the plan but who am I kidding:
miscellaneous stiffer bushings/inserts
dedicated track wheelset
big brake kit
more competitive coilovers

This car is my daily and my fun car. Should see 7-8 time trial events per year at my local kart track, plus 1 or 2 snow events. I'm sure at some point I'll take some road trips to normal road course events, but that will not be the build focus.

Ethos/Concept: Lightweight Responsive OEM+

Run OEM+ until timing plateaus, then add engine/response and run until timing plateaus, then add handling/rawness until timing plateaus. Buy an EV and die bored.

Tentative plan:

Short term not much. I might throw a header and tune on if good ones become available. Maybe various bushings and a short throw shifter to tighten up a bit.

Wheel/tires and sway bars are also a possibility but the grip on the new car is so much better there isn't any urgency.

The car drives great out of the box. I am not trying to be controversial, but when I got the first gen it felt like it needed more power as quick as I could make that happen. This time not so much. I had a vortech supercharger on my '13 frs and it pulled great at the top end, but the new car pulls harder through the entire rev range except the very top end.

Long term (3 or more years away) I do plan on adding FI of some sort, but I'll have to see what the options are around that time. I want it to be as high quality as possible, so one of the bigger brands/well known names like HKS, Edelbrock, etc. Going to go with a turbo or positive displacement S/C not centrifugal this time.

I am crazy excited to see what can be done with the new motor. The wait to see them crack the ECU is killing me.

- Dabadge the Subaru letters off the trunk, debating the BRZ logo as well
- White corner markers
- Maybe a new shift knob
- Disable the silly ASD
- Replace the PS4's with AS tires in the fall.

- Second set of wheels/tires for track and autocross

Going for feel, mostly DD with an occasional track day and "set it and forget it." Very smooth roads where I live.

My delivery is supposed to arrive 06/2022....so I'm stacking parts already. Nothing major. This is a weekend warrior for me, but would like to see a few track days. I have a decent track about 30 mins away. I'd like my final product to be a better version of the STI build..
