What powers that be?

The Japanese government that is currently trying to decide whether they should cancel the Olympics they've spent millions of dollars on as a fourth wave is hitting Japan? That in addition to Olympic-adjacent reasons, money will be continue to be lost due to no tourists coming to visit either for the Olympics or other reasons, like Hanami season that just came and went?

The officials in India? Brazil?

Better not talk religion or Irace2.0 will go on a tangent again.

It's almost like the first folks that that were in line for the vaccine are magically immune to the disease.

I wish the language was a bit clearer.

People hear: "once you've gotten your dose(s), you're vaccinated!"

When originally it was more about much efficacy you have once fully vaccinated _and_ it's more about protection from the severity of symptoms than "you're definitely not going to be able to catch it."

problem is, now those 70+ people are jumping on the 'OPEN EVERYTHING' bandwagon, because 'everyone's vaccinated' (my grandmother tried telling me this weeks ago, before i was even eligible to sign up for a shot) even worse, they're the ones that typically have money to throw at causes, political, or personal, so they tend to have more push..

Yes, I was just simplifying the statement for brevity.

Wife and I just got back from first dose of Pfizer vaccine. The drive through vaccination clinic was much better organized than the testing site. They were down to half capacity for lunch, but was only waiting a half hour or so until we got the shot, had some forms to fill out in the meantime that took about 15 minutes anyway.

No side effects yet other than the usual arm feeling a bit weird after getting stuck with a needle. I'll live.

My wife had the Pfizer jab, she had zero side effects. She then started to speculate whether the virus was for real. This could be one of the side effects??

They seem pretty clear to me. Broadly paraquoting them, "If you're fully vaccinated (complete course of vaccine + two weeks) continue to wear your mask and practice social distancing. When you're among other fully vaccinated people it's ok to let your hair down a little but the pandemic is not over. Don't act as though it is."

That is my reading of what I see from the CDC and the "powers that be." It is, I think, good advice,, so I am taking it.

Media especially. This thing has been a cash cow for them. Politicians have gotten some mileage out of it as well.
