Never thought I’d own a white car. The ceramic white is good though. This far all my cars I’ve owned, zero have been metal flake or pearlescent finish.

And the goal setting for the twins was set so low. It's basically saying that I need to lose 2 lbs when I know I need to lose 20 lbs.

Also, u guys think Toyota and Honda are all that when it comes to forecasting and analytics. I know someone that does that at Honda and I can tell u that it is not sophisticated.... These 2 companies are successful because of lean manufacturing, not analytics

I've only ever owned one white car. It was a 1983 Camaro Z28, and that's exactly what I liked about it, white car with lots of black accents. Mine even had a black top (aftermarket targa) that really set it off.

The only relatively current white car I would consider is the Gen3 Cadillac CTS-V Carbon Fiber edition, for the same reasons (needs black wheels though)

I wonder if the next-gen car will have any more soundproofing than the current car. We took a 7 hour (one-way) trip yesterday. It was absolutely orgasmic for the first couple of hours (even just cruising on the highway which isn't what this car was made for), but after 3 hours started to get a little old, and after 7 hours... we were ready to get out of the car.

It's meant for carving up twisty roads and I don't want to change it's soul, but just a little bit quieter ride at 70+ mph would be deeply appreciated by this 60-something aging body (and would make conversation and music more enjoyable as well).

Now you have stepped into my domain.

You cannot do lean manufacturing without analytics.

Don't be silly.

Lol six sigma is not analytics per se... It's only starting to incorporate analytics because what doesn't use analytics these days?

I have been in the manufacturing side... Every car u own probably has something my former company manufactured... I can tell u now that the manufacturing industry is light years behind the e-commerce industry... And pls don't relate a bunch of excel sheets as analytics.. that's how it was at my old place, and that is an industry norm... Why do u think I left?

Okay okay, let's not try to assume we are literally talking Lean in CONTEXT with the argument of Sale Goals for Automotive Companies.

If you want to talk Lean, you have to include Analytics to justify the loss in Headcount and Operational Overhead for the reduction in Labor Cost. Every company that manufactures, especially in High Labor regions like the U.S. and Europe, have to cost-evaluate the necessary expenditure for running Lean with the justification for an optimal Run-in Rate for Production. If you think Six Sigma is the only method towards Lean Manufacturing, that is only a Tool to help achieve Lean Manufacturing with high efficacy methods to resolve problems. Just like AGILE and Kaizen, these are just solutions a company can employ for Problem Solving and Resolution for Permanent Corrective Action to save the Company and Customer money for Production.

If you want to talk Lean for affected sales, talk about how prevalent Turnover affects Run-in rate Capability in any industry. If you want to talk about Industry 4.0 for the future of automation and reducing headcount, then you have to account for Robot GRR and Capability to discuss efficient models of operation with current equipment. No one likes to spend money on more equipment that will not be compatible with pre-existing or retrofitted equipment, coupled with depreciation. That's why carmakers keep running the same designs and features as long as they can before updating tooling/processes for the next generation.

Yes, you do have a lot of Excels, Minitab Projects, 5Why's, etc. that pool into extreme amounts of documentation that will possibly never see the light of day for optimization into a cohesive Cloud/PDM but Companies are trying. That still doesn't mean a company like Toyota will negate the means for improving Overall Equipment Effectiveness (OEE) to yield better results in terms of Quality, Run-in Rate, or a combination of both for getting more Cars out to consumers based on projected sales/heijunka. There are methods to the madness and thus how companies survive after year after year, not just on sheer guesses.

You best check the supply again. In most regions you can't buy one new without some serious travel involved.

Also note that all sports car sales are dropping across the board for the last 5 years. That includes the Mustang and Miata.

Because they discontinued the car, and there's a chip shortage which is choking supply for all cars?

Also, the Mazda sells as much or more miatas as the twins. And this second generation is more of a refresh. We will see what happens when they need to build a new platform.

New body, chassis, and motor, not to mention a dozen other things. That's just a refresh? Where would you draw the line between generations, then?

I think he was referring to the 2gen Twins not the ND/ND2 Miata. The new Twins for the most part is just a refresh (didn't get a new chassis).

When did we get to the point that a redesign required shitcanning the platform? And more specifically, what should they have changed in the platform that they didn’t change?

Double wishbone up front would have been my request but considering that we haven’t seen a Subaru with a flat engine and double wishbone front, that wasn’t going to happen with a platform change anyway.

If the gen 1 had a noodly, uncrashworthy chassis, I’d agree 100% that it needed a new platform. There was plenty of room to chase small stiffness improvement and weight reduction in the existing platform so carrying over a lot of that helps keep the cost reasonable.

I think I'll be OK with these improvements.

Outstanding Response and Road Feel

The chassis and body of the BRZ have been reengineered for lighter weight, an even lower center of gravity, 50% increased torsional rigidity, and 60% increased front lateral rigidity. Combined with its quick 13.5:1 steering ratio, the 2022 BRZ gives drivers a smooth, direct feel for the road and a near-instantaneous response to it.
