Seriously. You need separate street pads and track pads.

You're right, they are expensive and rotor wear is high, but pad wear is good and rotors are cheap on these cars. I don't know your skill level or how your car is set up, but the maximum operating temperature of these pads is 800°C and their performance as that temperature is reached is exceptional.

@CSG Mike, you and I have spoken about these pads extensively - can you weigh in on their performance and your personal experience with them?

You'll be hard pressed to find rotor temps under 74F in the summer in the continental US or southern Canada...

R6 is 1000F, the 999's are 800C (~1500F). The ClubRacer's are also a great pad, and work fine on the street in the summer. I prefer the feel of the ClubRacer's (less compressible) to the R10's, but both have similar heat ranges and are equally capable on the street and track.

Sort of a noob question but at what point do you make the call to resurface the rotors? How worn does it need to be?

I never resurface rotors. I replace them before they get to minimum thickness.

Never! Use them till they crack, replace with new ones, done.

I'm currently running RE71-Rs. But I'll be switching to RS4s or GT Radials when they wear out

OP, dont get too hung up on minimum temperature recommendation for the pads. None of the pads mentioned in this thread are hardcore race pads that need huge amounts of heat.

I daily XP10's which have a range of 250F-1650F and it bites stronger than OEM pads even on 40-45F days.

I mean, if we are going to go with temp based recomendations, I would be a dead man by now, since I ran the DTC-60 pads on Canadian winters (below 0F) because I was lazy and cheap (didnt have extra pads, didnt want to swap them). They still bite more than oem pads, even on freezing temps. THe only thing, is they eat rotors more when cold, thats all, but you should be replacing rotors more often if you are tracking anyways, they will usually crack before they get too thin.

Yeah, its the rotor wear when operating below temp that I'm more concerned about. I don't need maximum braking power when slowing to a stop sign. I've been getting grooves in my rotor with my Hawks. How often do you replace rotors? How many events/months of daily do you get on them?

With cheap blank rotors, they last anywhere from 6 to 8 track days with ducts in the front, or around 4 to 6 events without duckting. The rears seem to last forever, I change them once a year just because, but they can probably do something like 15-20 events, they wear so little. (you might have more wear if you race with nannies on, the ASC and EBD rely a lot on the rear brakes to control the car).

Oh wow! Maybe I feel less bad about my rotor wear then. Not sure how long the previous owner used those rotors, but I put a dozen autocross, 5 track days, 2 road trips of aggressive mountain driving, and 15k miles of street driving on them. So I guess they lasted pretty long...

Even I am in same boat as OP.

To everyone asking to run separate pads for track and street, do you change pads every time to want to go to the track. I go to track 3-4 times a year and autocross 5-6 times a year (summer is short here in Canada). I would find it very tedious to keep switching pads.

It only takes like 15 minutes each corner once you get the process down. You should be inspecting the brakes/wheels/tires before and after an event anyways.
