Yes, although there really isn't a reason to switch it.

Delll have a very good deal on Precision at the moment.

As our household has a Windows 10 Home licence it would useful to run this on the Windows Pro machine. So it's a simple switch?

I just looked at Dell, HP and Microsoft as I have used all 3 suppliers in the past.

I am looking for something that looks nice, clean and professional not 'gamey'. I will check out your suggestions.

No, it's a complete wipe and reinstall. You can upgrade easily (change authentication code) but you can't go backwards.

I've seen instructions for doing a registry hack to accomplish it, but I don't know if it actually gets you back to Home or if it just makes Windows think it is the Home version.

Honestly, I'm not sure why you would need to run the Home edition. In fact because Home does not include BitLocker for disk encryption I would recommend NOT running it. I've run Pro at home for as long as there has been a Pro version, and never had an issue. As far as I know there is no problem running both versions on different computers either.

Here's a comparison.

Dell has just quoted a price to build a Precision with the Home o/s. I suppose this gives me the option to upgrade to Pro. Like you say you can't go backwards, or as @humfrz would put it "can't reverse!"

Gents, thank you so much for your assistance/wise words and other "geeky" support! I have completely ignored it and ordered a 486dx desktop, it was such a bargain!!

Only kidding, I explored the Dell Precision as suggested by @Spuds and looked into Windows Pro as suggested by @Dadhawk. @soundman98, I checked out your suggestions too, but too "gamey" especially the MSi, interesting website..

I just couldn't get the maths to work, the machine was coming out at £3.2k, I was able to buy the XPS similar spec for £2.4k.

New laptop on its way.. I also ordered a Wacom drawing tablet.. looks interesting.

No, now that it's open again I will post a couple photos of my set up.
The first one was while I was building my last gaming rig with the then latest Geforce GTX-980 video card. (That's how long it's been)
The second image is of how my set up looked a few weeks ago. The ASUS ROG G75V laptop is my main communications system now. (Was my gaming rig.) The 22" Acer monitor helps my old eyes. My gaming rig is dedicated to AA:PG.
If and when there is a new version I'll look at upgrading at that time. Until then I can still rock frame rates over 100.

The XPS in general is a very good machine for the money. My company's standard laptop is an XPS. In the US I think the prices are a bit closer between the higher end XPS and a Precision of similar performance, which is why I recommend checking them out. I don't think you will be disappointed with that xps.

I personally opted for the tech stipend option my company offers and got myself a Precision. Honestly I just like the way it's built. I like aluminum cases lol. Also I have some taxing applications I need to run and drive a 4k display.

If I don't build my own, I usually buy an XPS. They typically spec like Alienware without the marquee price bloat. In fact, I still have an XPS that is 10 years old that is very serviceable (it does have an upgraded power supply and has had a couple of video card upgrades). It's not my primary gaming machine, but it serves me well in the Man Cave/Woodshop.

Our company uses Dell Latitude, shit battery life, 3hrs max. At my last place I had a HP Elitebook which was nice, suited me as I was doing a lot of traveling, nice and light, small enough to use when flying.
