Haha, the old one is actually quite fun in some ways, it's light and has no nannies whatsover, even ABS.


I drove the new one as a loaner once, wasn't bad, felt relatively spacious for the size of the car, seats were definitely better than in mine. But I think I've enough of Corollas, time to try something else .

The Veloster and Genesis coupe were both on my short list as well as the Mazda 3.
Both pretty capable cars for what they are. Could be hard to find a new Genesis now but of course the Velo is easy.


What I didn't like with the Veloster was the seating and driver position. It just felt incredibly awkward, the seat is just a weird design and very uncomfortable (for me) and the various controls were unintuitive and misplaced (again, for me). I am sure I would have got used to them but they were so far off it would always have bothered me.


The Mazda was very nice but I am not convinced that they have conquered their rust demons yet. That may not be an issue for you but where they use salt I would not recommend.


If I had not come across the 86 I would be terrorizing a Genesis forum right now since the coupe was a very nice drive.

I never test drove an AT so can't give feedback but the between the V6 over the 4T was huge.

100% in agreement with @daiheadjai

Feels like you just listed all the features of the frs/brz with the 2016+ models adding the back camera that you want. Dealers might be trying to clear out the 16s before the 17s come in for a possibly good deal.

Quick bit of insight I might be able to add:

Don't rule out the S550(2015+) mustangs. You might be able to get a good deal on a ecoboost or v6 if either of those grab your interest and the forum doesn't flame you to death for getting a 4/6 cylinder AT mustang

Some anecdotal info between my AT FR-S and my buddy's AT ecoboost mustang:

Interior
Mustang is hands down better. I don't care for the leather seats but everything from the seats to the dash to the storage space and even the audio/infotainment is just better in the mustang

Handling:
FR-S wins hands down. Driving the mustang does feel a bit numb even on the track settings after driving the fr-s.

Power
Mustang (do i need to write anything else?)
The ecoboost has a few different modes for the transmission from normal to track where it will either go to redline before shifting or shift asap. My buddy has his car pretty much stock and there is never a problem with power. He was running a canned tune for a little bit that basically added 2 psi up top I think but the power still feels good and turbo lag isn't bad.

Nimbleness:
The mustang has come along way and is obviously not a bad handling car but at least for me the sight of the giant hood out front and the bigger length of the car kills the nimbleness feeling for me.

On a related note, my friends and I are basically the lamest car group ever.
We have a:
2015 AT FR-S
2015 AT Ecoboost mustang
2009 or 2010 AT Gen1 Gen Coupe 3.8 V6
2000 something AT BMW 335i
In my personal opinion I would take the FR-S over all the other choices but I would rather have a gen coupe than the mustang.

Try the Abarth. Theyre Fiats, not Chrylser - Chrysler had nothing to do with the engineering. I had one for 20k miles and loved it. Absolutely a hoot to drive.

Got rid of it for two reasons:
1. Driving position wasnt good for my body
2. Not competitive in any autocross class

Ive had the same two women more comfortable in the back of the Abarth than they were in my FRS.


Otherwise, I would only look at the FRS/BRZ, FiST, and GTi

I drove a 2016 V6 mustang (convertible) for a few days. Power was nice, but boy it felt heavy, and response to steering was sluggish. I gave it a nickname: "steamboat". So, probably no . Thanks for the response though!
