Regardless of the article, they are working on this. They've said so publicly multiple times. Who knows when it will come though? Probably not until 2017-2018 at the earliest. Here's to hoping it's an MR2 successor though!!

Since there has not been one official Toyota statement nor concept shown on these mini 86s in the two years since the drive "article" was written I don't think I would hold my breath waiting.
Yet another speculative piece from Drive that the rest of the click baits will jump on in slow news periods.
OK, keeping track of the times this gets posted so...1
Yeah, it's old news and I've talk with Tada-san that they're planning to release smaller/lower ver... but that was early '12.

Good thing you're not hold your breath.
BUT I do love to see this thing comes to production

That is part of the problem. A ways back they officially stated that they were considering, maybe, just possibly making such a car and then shut up about it with nary another word. The fiction writers from the blogs have been running with those original statements and adding "facts" from "insiders" ever since. Even when they do put a name to something it usually doesn't take long to track down where the quotes were made and they are usually so ambiguous or out of context that their use was meaningless anyway.
It is so easy to speculate on the internet because if it sounds real or is what people want to hear then a pile of support can be found for even the most ridiculous things.
If the companies would simply come out and make official updates (which could very well include "ya we dropped that project") then these blogs would have real things to talk about instead of making shit up. Unfortunately they don't say anything so the speculation runs wild and people take it as true.

For those cross-shopping a true Domestic Sports Car!

If you can't see that the new SVX Concept is an obvious take on the Timeless Classic known as a Gremlin.

I got that video off of Autoguide, so I know its current.

That was great!
I had one with the big freakn' six in it and though much maligned then and now, it was a great little car.
Was no red light warrior, the interior looked cheap, and people called it slow but on a twisty road there wasn't much around that could keep up with it. Hey wait! I think I have heard that before someplace it sounds really familiar.

I disagree. I think that Drive Australia gets that honour. Most of the other crappy sites seem to reference them the most and they don't seem to have any qualms about just making shit up as they go.
