Because it will now be called the GR86.

They could skip MY21 and still release MY22 in summer of 2021.

How many of these "second coming" threads do we have? Getting tiresome... I think the Yaris is going to take over the "sports" car mantle.

That is very true. The 2020s were starting to show up around July last year.

My response was more sarcasm directed at the clickbaits that made up a whole story based around one blurry picture of a dealer presentation PPT slide. It was not to be taken seriously.

2013s showed up first in like Feb 2012... so...

But given that production should start around April-June 2021 I'd expect first US deliveries to occur in Sept/Oct 2021 at the earliest. And the West Coast first again but a few months.

That little rally car is pretty freaking hot. I'd love to have one of those in my driveway instead of, well, most other cars out there today.

So what is everyone’s best guess as to when the actual 2nd gen might be revealed in the flesh? Any particular motor show? This year or next? I’d expect to see more mules and even some camo wrapped versions late this year if we are really going to see anything before 2022.

Don't think there is any way to accurately predict this. Could be next week, next month or next year. Although unlikely it is possible they don't even have a road test ready vehicle built yet.
If the "leaked" photo of the time line is to be believed it is supposed to hit the market mid 2021 but even that has no form of official support so is questionable at best.
Any and all guesses about when we will se it will be exactly that, guesses! Some may guess right but it won't be based on facts or data just plain dumb luck.

Also, North America gets screwed out of the Rally Yaris because we get the rebadged Mazda2 Yaris instead.
