Is it a clunking, or more like a crunchiness, like worn synchros?

Try keep the clutch in, wait for 3 secs, and then put it in 1st gear. If you don't get the noise that way, then I believe it's normal. My other MT did this also.

My clutch does that.

Also, today, when I tried to switch from 2nd to 3rd gear at around 4k RPM, I grinded for some reason. Hmmm. I've never grinded while upshifting.

I think its normal, I just posted a Thread about my transmission making sounds a couple days ago. Apparently I think its normal. My trans. makes a clunk like sound too. Im guessing its the way they built it... and I've just had my car for 6 days so far. I found out on mine, when taking off from a dead stop at 1st gear, it will shake if you let go of the clutch and not accelerating while around 1500rpm or lower...

probably a combination of the transmission not fully warmed up and moving the shifter before fully pressing the clutch pedal in. if you ever feel a slight grind, pop it back to neutral, let go of the clutch pedal, and try again. don't force it in gear.

Well, its not a loud grind. Its just a grind that you feel on the gear shifter. It didnt make any noise or anything. You can just feel some force on the shifter then it goes in gear. Its like a millisecond.

Currently my BRZ has around 750 miles. But today I went to like 6k RPM I couldnt resist! I needed some taste.

Need to drive more to break it in lol.

But I think its already broken in.

i wouldn't worry about hitting 6k rpm once in a while. this isn't 1960s anymore. it's pretty hard to destroy modern engines.

the shifter doesn't feel as smooth when the transmission hasn't warmed up yet. shift below 3k rpm until your engine/tranny has warmed up. i get the same feeling on mine.

you can go up to 4k rpm for break in period according to the manual.
under 'emergency situations' above that
