is it bad to constantly floor the brz?
Hi, please excuse me if i am asking a silly question but I own a 2015 automatic brz and love the car! The only concern i have is if I am damaging the car/engine if i am constantly flooring the accelerator and 'launching'.
I've owned the car for around a month now and floor it until it reaches around 90-100 km/h then let go and i can hear the engine cool off as it drops from a higher rpm to a lower rpm and i gradually brake to a slower speed. Or is it better to maintain a constant rpm/speed? Thank you in advance! |

So long as you are letting fluids get up to temp, no issue.

Do you literally slam the gas pedal to the floor from a stop or slowly increase to wide-open-throttle?
The former might do some harm over the long-medium term. It’s still a machine that has many moving parts. EDIT: pretty sure I am baking in a troll thread

you should try manually shifting. it's more fun when the car starts bouncing off the rev limiter.

Your engine is ruined. Fortunately for you, I'm looking for a parts donor engine. I'll take it off your hands for, let's say $350.

I would be hesitant to advise using this advanced driving technique on a daily basis as the outcome could jeopardise your gas mileage and is less suitable for all-round reliability in the long run. ...Oh by the way, Welcome to FT86 Eagle . |

It depends on your definition of "bad".
If you have more fun driving that way, then it doesn't sound like that's 'bad'. More fun is usually a good thing. If you think that possibly shortening the life of the engine is bad, then constantly flooring it might do that. Slamming the pedal to the floor puts a sudden load on many moving parts in the engine. Eventually, those moving parts might start to react by showing more wear. In general, the life expectancy of an engine can be more dependent on the total amount of fuel run through it than the miles or operating hours (even though most people think in terms of miles or hours). So if the only way you drive the car is with your foot to the floor, and you're seeing gas mileage in the teens, the engine probably won't last as long compared with more moderate driving. That might not bother you, depending on how many miles the car has on it, and how long you plan to keep it. It might end up losing compression, or burning oil, or someday experiencing a catastrophic engine failure, but that day might be far into the future when you no longer own the car. It's your car, and your choice. |
