Exhaust Re-tune - Turbo

Hi Guys,

I recently installed a Turbo Kit on my BRZ and got it tuned. I did not get the chance to have an aftermarket exhaust installed with the turbo due to financial restrictions at the time .

However, for future, will I need a re-tune if I installed aftermarket exhaust (overpipe, front pipe, catback exhaust) after the fact?

I know that a re-tune is recommended to get the most, but will it be safe to drive? Has anyone had any issues?

I tried to find answers in the forum but I only found this: https://www.ft86club.com/forums/show...exhaust+retune

Just wanted to make sure.

Thanks a bunch!

I wouldn't bother. A re-tune would just be to take advantage of the extra breathing room- it won't affect the tune negatively

Only return for major things. Like new injectors, fuel pump etc.

If you are custom E-tune minor revisions are 50-100$ not paying for an entire new complex tune. Is 50-100$ worth maybe 1-2% more optimized tune? Up to you.

Thanks guys, much appreciated!

Just worried it might provide an issue with the current tune. Looks like it wont.

Monitor your afr and fuel trims. If they look out of wack then get an adjustment. If not don't worry bout it

I would recommend a retune. You will be having less back pressure and possibly make more boost with the higher flowing exhaust (not tasing about major change, but some more).

Why chance it? given you are adding boost to a factory NA engine, best be safe.

If you're increasing flow, you're changing how the boost is delivered.

100% should get a retune, or at the bare minimum, evaluation.

This. Talk to your previous tuner. If you're using ecutek, they will have access to the old tune and can just tweak it vs someone else having to start from scratch. They may charge a much lower rate to just make minor adjustments.
