His rep on this forum is almost completely trashed at this point. Depending on how this plays out, I think Jalopnik needs to hear about this one.

Dang this sucks....like others said at least you and a loved one were not the car when this happened, but this is heart-wrenching to see and read this experience hopefully insurance goes through smoothly. I am one to always give the benefit of the doubt to actually mechanics as this is their profession and should know what they are doing as well as tuners. Accidents happen and it just sucks that it has to happen to you, a similar issue happened to my 02 WRX with close $30,000 in mods (my jdm phase). It seemed to be an electrical problem and insurance was able to pay it out, it was not associated to any other engine mods in the car so i was lucky. It seems that Visconti has seemed to get a bad Rep, i've only met him once and he does not seem to have very good people skills. He may be biting off more than he can chew as he tries to service a large part of the community and can't handle the work load...idk. Anyways i do wish you luck and i know it probably doesn't mean much but keep your head up.

Let the insurance company handle it. He's paid his premiums for a reason.

I kind of wish this happened on MSF.org...the inquisition that occurs when even a whiff of doubt about shady vendors pops up is amazing.

Curious of why Visconti is being blamed for the fire? If he was just test driving and tuning.... why is he getting the blame?
A fuel leak or oil leak onto a header is really only way for a fire to start. I had a oil leak onto the headers of my mustang almost burn it down 20 years ago. Always have a fire extinguisher in a modded car now. |

I can see where Visconti's casual responses about it are a bit off-putting---and the timing certainly does not bode well---but before we all gather our pitchforks, let's wait for official proof to be posted. The investigation is ongoing. Righteous indignation is understandable, but let's make sure we have all the facts straight before we start to point fingers and slander a long-standing vendor. I hope this doesn't offend anyone. Truly sorry again for your misfortune brzturbo. :\ I hope everything works out in your favor in the end. |
