I love seeing sports cars with racks on 'em. But I haven't put one on my BRZ yet because I haven't found a need to. I can fit my skis and bike inside without problems.

Hey Guys, Sorry to Revive this old thread but i need some help from some of you that have experience with getting a roof rack on.
I have been emailing with Yakima customer support, They have "removed" the "fit" for BRZ/FRZ on the Q Tower system (I guess due to damage) though from what i have read in this thread no one has seen any major issue. Regardless they no longer support the "fit" and certainly don't want to tell to try it out. As far as i can tell, they no longer sell the clip size stated to fit in OP - (Q91-A) I am interested in fitting there new Baseline rack system https://www.yakima.com/baseline But of coarse, they do not have a "fit" for the vehicle and although they anchor points are the same as the Q tower (as far as i can tell) the support people are not helpful in finding what clip size will work. I know the Q Tower system physically will fit onto the car (and am assuming the Baseline Tower System will as well) but without a Yakima supported "fit" i am forced to guess and check what clip size will fit. Is there a measurement i can make on the car itself? any ideas? Is there really no option for roof rack without drilling into the roof? |

Looking at the baseline, it looks to have a similar mounting solution as the Q-towers, basically clips on the window frame. The clips/landing pads are usually universal fit, and fit most contoured surfaces on most cars. Whatever Yakima "recommends" are just ones they've verified to fit. I would try to find a yakima dealer (an REI, Racksolid or something) and see what they recommend and try out the fits. You might end up with a different brand that fits better than the current Yakima stuff. If so, go ahead and post so that folks have another option in the future. I think a better option for you would be to go ahead with the Q-towers and just look around e-bay for the clips/landing pads (Q91-A I believe). Might not be authentic "Yakima" brand, but lots of folks break parts and replace them with these, plus, since there are already a few of us who own it, you know it fits. Best of luck. |

Nice @sobrz! I just spent like an hour on Google looking for something like this (a longer board strapped to a roof rack), didn't realize this post was here the whole time. I'm still a little hesitant to stick a rack on the car though.
Did you have any issues with this setup with the front of the board catching the wind or anything? Do you think it would hold with an even longer board or a SUP? |

Best solution now seems to be Seasucker mounts then add accessories as needed.

No issues, surprisingly little noise, too... up to 75 mph. North of 75 mph the the board starts flexing a bit (airflow creates enough force to flex the soft board pads), this visible flexing successfully discourages me from pushing it further to "normal highway speeds". I'd be very comfortable putting a longer+thicker board or sup on it. My favorite longboard (pictured) is very thin, I'm only worried about the wind breaking the nose at front strapping point and stabbing someone behind me. The rack itself is super solid. Also, I'm amazed by how easy it is to put it on or off. I have an 2011 Outback with roof rack that folds into the roof rails and I always show off how easy it is to "put it on". This rack is almost just as fast to put on, it really just takes "4 clicks". 10/10 would buy again. Last edited by sobrz; 05-25-2016 at 01:07 AM. |

Still looking, this time because I may need to start carrying a second bike... worried about denting the roof though, looks like neither the Yakima or the Seasucker are good options given the thin roof material and the fact that neither Yakima or Thule officially offer a setup for our cars anymore. Anyone with bad experience roof mounting two bikes? I imagine two bikes plus the rack would be pretty near to the weight limit, too...

Hey off topic a bit, but can you tell me are you running spacers with the OEM rims?
The RCE Yellow looks perfect! Thanks! Looks beautiful!

Yes, 15mm spacers all around (smallest size that comes with studs so that I didn't have to replace oem studs).
steering feel affected marginally (I think feels slightly better with no spacers), looks massively improved. |
