Love it or hate it, this may be the last hurrah for naturally aspirated internal combustion powered sports cars.

Are you really of the opinion that there is absolutely no confirmation bias at all on this matter, from any current owner? It seems that you are taking this personally, whereas I am speaking of the entire population of 1st gen owners that dislike the 2nd gen. I, for one, am not trying to discredit anyone's opinion, and I think it is fine to dislike the newer car. I am personally neutral on the appearance of the new car, pending seeing it in person and driving it. From the start I have been fascinated by how vehement the negative reaction has been from some 1st gen owners. Here my comments do appear to apply to you, although not specifically.

No I can not say that there is none but the kneejerk reaction to everything is "Oh the owners of the previous are biased and they just don't like the new because of that". I do take it personally since it has been directed at me several times now. I have even been called "dumb" and "not sane" for buying one of the last of the first generation made because I LIKE it. Now I suppose I am just "trying to justify my choice in face of the better car" or some bullshit like that. There is no hidden reason why some like the old better than the new and the vehement reaction of some of the first gen owners is simply because we Subjectively think the new design sucks balls. We are supposed to keep quiet and let the racer wanttabes fawn all over it without expressing our dislike?

You can like whatever generation car you want, but trading in your old twin for a new twin will never make sense financially. I already lost on the depreciation, why trade it, lose more money and then pay more for a car that’s a little bit better. Of course I would reserve a final decision after driving one, but honestly to pay more than 10-15k and the taxes again, is not worth it to me. That’s a down payment for a used Cayman S.
That said, if you like it, get it, it’s your money. But it does not mean it’s a smart decision. Over on Nasioc, there a dudes who have bought 3 different WRXs over the years while I still have my 04. Not all were new, but man all in they are easily over 60k and basically have a similar experience as I do, except I have had no payments for 12 years. But in the end it’s not my money. |

This applies to nearly any old car for new transaction though. Unless it involves a total loss wreck it is almost always cheaper to fix a car than to replace it with a brand new one.

All-New 2022 Subaru BRZ Makes Global Debut
Quote:
When the ‘02 Impreza came out, almost all of the ‘98-‘01 owners on Nasioc (i-club at the time) hated the looks. Most people decided the turbo engine was worth it and moved on. Same with the ‘02-‘03 when the ‘04-‘05 came out. Repeat for ‘06, ‘08, and ‘15. I personally liked all of them except the non-STI ‘08. But the GC was the best looking one because I had an ‘01 2.5RS. ![]() Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk Last edited by Quentin; 12-07-2020 at 09:39 PM. |

Totally agree, I guess I mean the short amount of time some of these people own a car before they trade it. If it’s over 10 years and over 150k, I get why people want new and you got some good use out of the car for your money. But some of these people own a car for 2 years and trade up. To do that for something so similar does not make sense to me.

Frankly, if he wanted to stay with the Twins, and given what we knew about the timing of the new generation and the small incremental changes, I think he made a good choice.
