Can't believe you're taking 35 down though. We do 281 or whatever that "backroad" is.

Have a blast guys!
That sucks.

Yeah on the way back yesterday I took 35E from Austin to Fort Worth after stopping at COTA. It was a nightmare with all the traffic on it. On Saturday from Fort Worth to SA it was not an issue. We may look at the planned route and take 281 like we did last year.

Roll Charts and Important Information 3rd Annual Texas FT86 Day

Twisted Sisters Run and Lunch at the Bent Rim Grill in Leakey, TX

7:45 – 8:00 AM – Initial meet up point is in front of The Apple Store in Medina, Texas. Please park across the street beginning at the furthest end towards Bandera and back-in your vehicle if possible. The Apple Store opens at 8:00 am and they have things like apple pastries, pies, gift items, coffee, beverages, etc. Try the apple ice cream! Restrooms are located on the patio area through the back doors.

8:15 – 8:30 AM – First Twisted Sisters Run group will begin lining up behind a lead driver parked on the Apple Store side of the road headed towards Ranch Road 337. Group size = 10 to 15 cars. Lead driver will have a short briefing session with drivers in the group and will depart when ready.

After the departure of the first group, subsequent lead drivers will organize groups in the same manner. Groups will be lining up and departing at about 10 – 15 minute intervals or less. Monitor GMRS/FRS radio Channel 5-0 for information pertaining to group sequencing. Team leaders will make the call whether their group will go clockwise or counter clockwise on the run out of Leakey.

1) IMPORTANT – Fuel: Everyone should have enough fuel to drive approx. 135 miles from Medina, TX. 3/4ths of a tank is recommended. Our 86s will be doing a lot of uphill acceleration and consuming more fuel at wide open throttle. Please top off your tank in San Antonio, Kerrville, Boerne or Bandera before arriving in Medina. There will be several scheduled “stops” on the run but, these do not include any filling stations or restrooms. Please use the restroom in Medina before departure.

2) VERY IMPORTANT – Safety:

a. No showing off, burnouts, drifting, throwing gravel, etc. Be alert at all times. Stay in your lane. Drivers should not exceed their driving skills limitations or performance capabilities of their vehicle. Keep a safe following distance. Watch out for rocks, debris or areas of loose gravel. Drive at a speed that you feel safe to drive on the roads you are driving on. It is recommended that the vehicle’s traction control features be active and not turned “off”. Use caution at all times.

b. There may be slow moving vehicles, bicycles and motorcycles at any time requiring an immediate slow down. Oncoming large motor homes and trucks pulling trailers have been observed on rare occasions and these have the potential to cross over in to the opposite lane if encountered on a narrow curve. Again, be alert and stay in your lane.

c. The lead driver may slow down well below the speed limit in order to create a gap if a slow vehicle is observed up ahead. Also, the lead driver may pull over for a few minutes in a safe spot off of the roadway to accomplish the same. Monitor channel 5-0 during the run for information from the lead car.

d. If slower vehicles are being passed along the run – please observe the laws pertaining to passing. Do not pass illegally. Do not pass if it is unsafe to do so.

e. If bicycle riders are observed on the run – driving speeds will be reduced accordingly.

f. Participating in this event is entirely voluntary and participants agree that organizers, lead drivers, group leaders, ft86club.com, sponsors, vendors, etc. bear no liability or responsibility for accident, injury, property damage, etc.

g. As always, faster drivers to the front of the group / slower drivers to the rear of the group.

Prior to departure and at anytime during the run, please inform lead driver/team leader if you have any issues.

Notice…cell phone service is very limited past Bandera, TX, and mostly non-existent during the Ranch Road drive north of Leakey. Only AT&T works in Leakey, TX.

Final meet-up destination for the 3rd Annual Texas FT86 Day will be at the Bent Rim Grill, 657 West RR337, in Leakey, Texas 78873.

ROLL CHART Map: https://goo.gl/maps/piV15

1. From Medina, go 1 block on Hwy. 16 and turn left on RR337. Proceed towards Leakey, Texas. (Radar traps have been observed at numerous locations along this 37 mile stretch of road between Medina and Leakey.) At Vanderpool, there is a short jog to the right on RR187 and back to the left on RR337. There are some nice twisties just before arriving in Leakey, TX.

COUNTER CLOCKWISE

2. From RR337 at the Stop Sign in Leakey, take a right on Hwy 83 and go about a mile. Turn left on to RR336 and go approx. 26 miles to Hwy 41. There are cattle guards on this route and numerous curves and twists. The 4th cattle guard is a pretty rough bump. Cattle have been seen on the road towards the end of this run but, none were there last weekend.

3. Rest Stop at end of RR336 at Hwy 41 (on the clearing to the left) – approx. 10 minutes.

4. From RR336 at Hwy 41, turn left on 41 and go 13.7 miles to Ranch Road 335.

5. Turn left on RR335. This is the Roller Coaster ride! Watch out for falling rocks on the road near the cliff sides. Lots of high speed dips. Use caution. Go about 22.5 miles to the Nueces River Bridge.

6. Rest Stop at the Nueces River Bridge – approx. 10 minutes.

7. Continue on RR335 about 6.5 miles to Hwy 55 at Barksdale.

8. Turn left on to Hwy 55. Radar in this area. Do not speed.

9. Go about 4.5 miles to Camp Wood and turn left on to RR337 to Leakey, TX. Radars have been spotted around Camp Wood all the way to Leakey, TX.

10. On RR337 go about 20 miles to The Bent Rim Grill on the right.

CLOCKWISE

2. From RR337 at the Stop Sign in Leakey, go straight on RR337 about 21 miles to Camp Wood, TX. (About a mile down the road you will see the Bent Rim Grill on the left.) Watch out for radar past the first set of twisties all the way to Camp Wood.

3. In Camp Wood, turn right on to Hwy. 55 and go about 4.5 miles to RR335. Watch for radar – do not speed.

4. Turn right on to RR335 and go about 6.5 miles to the Nueces River Bridge for a short break.

5. Rest Stop at the Nueces River Bridge – approx. 10 minutes.

6. Continue on RR335 about another 22.5 miles on the roller coaster section. Lots of dips. Watch for falling rocks that might be on the road near the cliff sides.

7. At the end of RR335 turn right on to Hwy. 41. Go 13.7 miles to Ranch Road 336.

8. Turn right on to RR336 and pull in to the area on the right for a short break.

9. Rest Stop at RR336 and Hwy. 41 – approx. 10 minutes.

10. Continue 26 miles south on RR336 towards Leakey. Watch out for cattle the first part of this run. Numerous cattle guards – there’s a rough one toward the end. Lots of curves and twists!

11. At Hwy. 83 continue to go towards Leakey and turn right on to RR337 and go about 1 mile.

12. The Bent Rim Grill is on the left.

The Bent Rim Grill will have a lunch special for $7.50 and there is very little wait time for the special as opposed to ordering from the menu. Menu Link: http://bentrimgrill.com/index_htm_fi...20Menu%202.pdf

Everyone will gather under the covered pavilion area and after lunch we’ll have the raffle drawing. One numbered raffle ticket per 86 owner = only one chance per 86 owner. Guests are not eligible for tickets for the raffle drawing. You must be present to win.

Have Fun!

For those of you who are new this year. The roller coaster is no joke! With enough speed you will scrape even at stock height from the gforces alone. So if you are lowered please reduce speed and you will be fine!

Adding to Extreme86's post here:

Should any malfunctions occur to any vehicles, that are repairable, I will have a mechanics toolkit with me. Should any injuries occur I have two separate kits with me in the event of bodily harm (burns, splints, bleeding, etc... basic things). Should something more serious happen I have a sharp/pointy tool that your vehicle will not appreciate very much. I will also have a spare gallon of 93 gasoline on me as well. I can only hope other drivers will bring spare gasoline as well. If anyone else wants to bring any items to assist in the event by all means do so. Usually, the above is spread out to various people in the group; however, since these are vehicles and not quads/motorcycles it's all compacted into the back of mine. If what I said here seems odd I've attached a story explaining why it is I carry the things I do.

The worst thing I've ran into in my time dirt biking was a guy folded in half.

For the story: Driving out at Dumont Dunes, California we happened to find a man and his wife. The man was laying on the ground, at the bottom of a dune, folded in half. Result: he was picked up (as gently as we could at the time), and placed in the back seat our sand rail (dune buggy). A call was made via Satphone to emergency services and he was transported to a known, open location, and we proceeded to wait for a medical helicopter. He and his wife were then transported to the nearest hospital in Las Vegas, NV. The entire event took place over four hours time.

Edit: grammatical errors... not all of them, but ones that bothered me.

Last edited by Zubit; 08-04-2015 at 07:39 PM. Reason: Grammatical errors, that I see, kill me inside.

The Valero in Kerrville down the road from the YO Ranch has E85. That's the only place I know of in the area that does. Granted it's the only station we ever stop at on our runs, but pretty sure someone said that's the only game in town. At least along our route.

EDIT: "Our" being my MR2 runs, not 86.
