I just found this:

http://www.edmunds.com/car-buying/wh...d-you-pay.html

http://blog.truecar.com/2011/07/26/w...s-the-doc-fee/

I think the fee is based on regional, but most are "no limit" wtf...

ok, I think I'm over it. I give up. ; ;

My dealer had $249.00 listed on the sales order. I talked him down to $100.00 + MSRP. for my BRZ Limited 6MT.

Apparently the DOC fee is one of the pieces of the Scion Pure Price garbage scheme and not negotiable. I don't know if true.

However, DOC fees vary from dealer to dealer by huge amounts. In my dealer shopping history I noticed some of the lower cost DOC fee dealers had a different bullshit fee...something like like an emissions testing fee, most likely to make up the difference.

We obviously need to start a thread after the cars arrive asking what people paid and to detail the bullshit fees their dealer added(remember, no negotiating with Scion Pure Price for clowns).

It's unregulated here in FL but is the same regardless of the car bought at that dealership. My dealership is charging $500 or $599 (forgot which they said).

The doc fee really doesn't matter as long as the total purchase price of the vehicle is good to you. If you are paying less than what most others are paying based on the purchase price metrics provided by Edmunds.com, then you are doing well.

However, anything above $300-400 bucks for a doc. fee would make me wary of the dealership unless they were giving the car to you for FAR below invoice.

As others have said, pay attention to the other miscellaneous fees as well, because those may be where they are gouging you.
