Precisely, those "factory oil coolers" are really warmers to get the oil temp quickly for emissions and wear purposes.

Ran into this by accident.

"The FA24D’s oil pickup system was engineered to the same standards as the FA20D’s. Owners may be aware that the FA20D’s oil pickups can become starved during sustained, high lateral-g maneuvers – what you’d get from pushing the car hard at the track on super-sticky rubber."

I guess it doesn't conclude that exactly, but people might be stuck with that same issue.

To be fair, most cars aren't designed in mind with what the "purple crack*" will do on track with a quick driver.

* = purple crack meaning Hoosiers. But other RComps are close.

You can oil starve on 200tw street tires and mild suspension mods. It’s really baffling that is needed more then the pickup.

Sounds like Killer B Motorsport might be getting this gen BRZ. They make great options for oil pick ups and baffles.

They have yet to make a baffle for an FA motor and their QC is not very good. I bought one of their pickups and it was way too long to use. Another member on here said he talked to IAG about using one of their pickups on his built short block. They didn’t recommend it due to “QC issues.”

It does look like the new engine has a oil to water cooler on the filter. i think the baffling looks similar with small changes.

These are effectively engine oil temperature stabilisers: Warm up faster, then remain at the desired temp longer.

That is a very desirable property for both the engineer, the epa and you, and now that you've got stable temperatures it's up to you to use the correct viscosity for your use case. And if by chance your needs include 10W60 and an external cooler, there's no way a 30k street car will meet your needs out of the box.

Is it me, or is that oil pickup tube different than the FA20?

It looks very different. The FA20 has the oil pickup bolting to a downward facing flange cast into the upper pan assembly that transfers to the front cover. The FA24 looks to have eliminated the cast part of the upper oil pan and is more direct to the front cover.

In day-to-day use, yes. But notice the title of this thread.

Yeah, about that title...

If you bought a $100k C7 Z06 and it went into limp-mode due to 320F indicated oil temp a few laps into a track event, yeah, I'd call that a "track day oil temp problem".

When a $28k FT86 has 275F max oil temps during a track day, and doesn't go into any limp-mode but keeps right on trucking without oil temp going any higher, that's not any "track day oil temp problem". It does mean you should think about using higher-viscosity synthetic oil though.

From the 2022 BRZ manual, recommended engine oil.

Looks like not much has changed.

Don't Bother with US manual, I'm pretty sure the japan Manual will probably tell you to stuff 5w-40 in it if you are going to track it like the old manuals.
