From the Car and Driver review:

“The pedal positioning makes heel-toeing somewhat tricky, but with some tweaks to your foot placement, it's possible.“

Assuming this means the pedal box has changed, as 1st Gen pedals were perfectly positioned for heel & toe.

It sounds like from others that some sold outside the US didn't have paddles. I wasn't aware of that.

It's the same pedal box. And the first-gen car is def NOT perfect for heel and toe. I remember Toyota specifically apologizing to us at launch because they have corporate rules to keep the gas pedal a certain distance from the brake after the whole "unintended acceleration" fiasco of the 2000s. I never liked the pedal box on these cars, you have to stretch like a MF.

That's one of the one's I watched. It doesn't really answer the question for me. OK, it's sort of faster than a Miata, assuming both drivers have the same skill set.

Like I said I assume it is, and some of the articles confirm it (about 0.9 seconds with the MT and 1.6 seconds with the AT, although I think that's suspect).

I guess we'll have to wait for the full blown reviews before we can confirm how much faster it is.

Throttle House on Youtube drag raced a first gen refresh against the new model. GR86 was at least four or five car lenths ahead through the quarter mile, representing probably two to three tenths of a second.

The new one is clearly faster than an ND2 Miata, and the old one was known to be slower.
That was the whole point of that drag race
It was not just "it is faster", it was "and here is proof".

I didn't spend that much on a pedal adapter from Verus for fun! I wonder if it will crossover to the GR86...

Thanks for that info.
Gen1 pedal box seems “perfect” to me HOWEVER admittedly a) I long ago drank the Toyobaru Koolaid and b) I don’t have much experience with anything better. Old school (size 10) Converse All Stars (-:, I don’t have a difficult time reaching/blipping the throttle while on brake.

That Hagerty video had me smiling like an idiot. Completely re-sold me on a car I was already sold on
