But, glad to hear it worked out for you.
Now I have to invent something to complain out though.

You can still complain about the rear-view camera. So, there's that. I wonder if there's a way to SPLIT the signal so that you can see it in the mirror AND on the head unit display. If only I had all of those features in my car, then I could test it. Maybe @oddrelic will give it a shot and can figure it out.

I can live without the camera. Now that the speakers work properly again the mirror shakes to much to see anything in it anyway.

i like the extra detail. makes it easier to follow. i hate how-to's that just assume i know one thing or another already.

i don't really think there's going to be an easy way for that. a lot of vehicles now use a 6v camera, and sometimes the mirrors provide that power. so all of the wiring(power, video, and reverse signal) would need to be ran down from the mirror to the radio, as well as make up an adapter, with integral voltage regulator, none of which have definitive manuals for the connections.

i just did the backwards version of that on my tacoma(aftermarket radio didn't support backup camera that the factory radio did, changed mirror for a video version). took me about 2 months with covid delays and shipping to get all the right parts, and really about 3 saturdays of work to get in and working.

That is a terrific write up on how to get the amp working!

As I recall, in another thread one of the posters mentioned that the new head unit just works with his old backup camera. I'd personally be happy just switching from the mirror to the head unit, that should just be a matter of running down which wire it is and what pin it needs to feed.

Now I'm interested... Night and day difference for the 2020 garbo sound?

Parts ordered from Amazon however one item is on back order. Quite excited to hear the difference!

Just wanted to express my gratitude to FR-S2GT86 and his associates for researching and presenting an excellent DIY guide. You guys are awesome!

I have virtually no experience in auto electronics yet I was able to successfully complete the instructions. So for those of you would are hesitant I'd encourage you to give it a go. I think you'll be happy with the results.

Thank you.

In my profession, I often have to get creative in finding alternate ways to get equipment working again temporarily, until I can come back with the right parts to fix the equipment properly. I actually consider myself one of the best in my profession at being able to do this. 30 years experience and you learn many tricks of the trade. One of the most important things I've learned is that you never stop learning.

This issue with the Harman head units seems to me like Toyota and Harman got together for a quick fix of a problem (having a negative output on a pin that should have had a positive output instead) and then not returning to fix the problem correctly.

Hopefully the problem will be gone with the new generation.

Again thanks to all involved for taking the time to determine how to integrate the 2020 Harman head unit with the trunk mounted door speaker amplifier. And thanks to FR-S2GT86 for this extensive DIY write-up. Having finished wiring up the inexpensive version above (FR-S2GT86 post #2), I wanted to chime in and agree with the others that there is a noticeable difference in both sound quality and loudness. Quality is less muddy presumably due to reducing overlapping/competing frequencies of the door and dash speakers and no longer requiring the head unit to drive a 1 ohm load for the front channels. Loudness is also increased at a given volume setting likely due to higher power of the amplifier. For reference, my previous equalizer settings were bass +3, mid +1, and treble 0 and my new settings are bass 0, mid 0, and treble 0. Edit: Now that I have driven the car a few times over the last week, I have also noticed the vocals soundstage is much improved and more naturally in front of you.

I wanted to share some pictures of how I wired (more can be seen in my build thread, see signature). I de-pinned the amplifier turn-on (terminal 9) from the 10-pin connector. To connect this female terminal to the antenna turn-on, I used Toyota male repair terminal part number 82998-12330 and Posi-Tap #502. This provides for a secure yet easy to revert back connection.

I appreciate the shout out, and am glad that it has worked out for you to make your stock system sound better.

I couldn't have written these how-to's without @oddrelic volunteering to use the amplifier test harness on his Hakone that I built for the original testing, so props to him.

Finally got around to making my harness and getting it all installed.

All I can say is, WOW. What a huge improvement.

I was pretty much resigned to replacing my head unit with something aftermarket but now I might not be so hasty.

Huge thanks to everyone who got this figured out and posted for the community, and to FR-S2GT86 for putting together such a comprehensive step by step guide. I'm just blown away by the sound quality for being such a simple change.

Thank you.

Oftentimes a relatively simple fix can make a world of difference.

Now if I can just get my hands on our U.S. Constitution.........
