Honestly do people avoid looking things up?

The platform wasn't from the corvette, it was a clean sheet design and chevrolet considered using a version of it for the C7 but that didn't happen.

The transmission was fine.

I've driven a solstice GXP. The trunk was a joke, interior was cheesy and the suspension tuning was off....not enough damping. But it went like stink, the manual tranny worked flawlessly although it wasn't as snikt-snikt as a miata, and that thing responded to mods like crazy. Absolutely stellar engine. Except for the interior space/quality and suspension tune, the Solstice GXP was the lightweight 250hp turbo RWD car that so many here are clamoring for. I'd wager that if they made a turbo model of the FR-S, it'd end up within 100lbs of the weight.

Hell, up until the 5.0L Coyote engine, the Cobalt SS Turbo was too much for a Mustang GT on the track. That thing FLEW.

The Ford Duratec is based on the Mazda MZR engines which is an all aluminum version of the old ironblock Z or B series from Mazda, I forget which exactly. Each is built in their own respective factories and each modifies each design to suit their own purpose, it's based on the same basic design though. I believe the original design was influenced by Cosworth according to a rumor I heard.

B series! That's it. The engine is heavily Mazda derived due to Ford focusing more on it's v8 and even v6 lineup, instead importing the designs for a new 4 banger from Mazda. From what I understand, the MZR is just an aluminum redesign of the B Series. The Sky active engines, on the otherhand, are wholly different designs whereas the Ecoboost engines are based on the MZR/Duratec architecture.

If Ford ever put any money into designed the Mustang chassis, watchout! They only put million into the foxbody chassis since it's original design. Meanwhile Ford spends billions on it's midsize cars. But that is what sells .

When/If Ford does release the next mustang, which is to be said to be smaller, more compact and hardcore. I wonder if Ford will source Mazda for their expertise on small sporty cars. If they do. I wonder how many die hard Americans will riot knowing their beloved mustang's DNA is partially Japanese.

Not many...the much anticipated Focus ST is part Japanese (see above posts about Mazda MZR engine), and, from what I understand, the Ecotec motor that powers the much beloved Cobalt SS, is Opel by design. They don't publicize these facts, and domestic fanbois just rest assured that their favorite automaker is the best whenever their car wins something on paper.

Maybe Mazda will merge it's rotary development program with the Mustang...Now THAT would piss off some die hard Americans!!! And probably some diehard Mazda fans, too!

I'm sure it won't be a problem, last I read most "American" cars have mostly foreign sourced parts, and most people who think they're being patriotic by buying American don't realize it.

Quite a few American cars are also built in Ontario or Mexico.

On topic. I think it will be interesting to see if Ford pulls the mid 80's with the SVO Mustang Route, but I don't think they'll drop the V6 for it, not immediately anyway. I think it's very possible because they've been sticking Ecoboost into everything.

GM... after the Solstice and Sky I don't think they want to try this market for a bit. And they're busy with the Volt and making Buick fun.

thanks for letting me know i tought it was the other way around, i constanly work on the shop on cars with that same v6 they put in everything from the mazda 6s to tributes/escapes, fusions,500s,taurus etc. and the 2.0l on the newer miatas look a lot like the 4 bangers in the ford cars wich are also 2.0l like the focus.

My bad, wasn't a corvette, it was a Cadillac CTS.

It was a Frankenstien's car.

It was car made by raiding the parts bin.

I'll say. You must have had more than a sip to write a response to a 7 year old thread and a guy that hasn't been here for 5 years though.
