At least you had a week in the office, I presume that you met your work colleagues etc. I met 2 of my work colleagues on my first day, the mail man and that was it.. since then I have been remotely doing induction courses and reading lots and lots of stuff... The project that I was meant to be working on has stalled because of the virus.. so looking at new projects.. Have a call with my boss today to discuss "other" stuff..

Good luck with your new job and I'll keep you all posted with developments regards my new job..

Yeah, that’s rough. Something nice someone started where I am is a weekly random pairing of two people from across the org for a short (15-30 minute) “coffee” chat. Last week I was matched with someone from Germany and it was like 5pm their time so they had a beer. But that way you get to meet someone from the same working group but outside your team.

Kind of a nice way to break up this weird monotony.

My immediate teammates aren’t really very friendly yet. Nobody pings me on chat or anything, or responds to joke messages in the team chat really. My manager is pretty good, he’ll message and ask how I’m doing, and the most experienced senior engineer is pretty friendly. But the others never had enough time to warm up to me (important since engineers tend to be very introverted). Makes it tougher since I live at home alone. So if nobody’s pinging me the other than one daily short meeting I’m not talking to anyone throughout the day.

It’s made me almost regret leaving my old job because at least I had friendly coworkers and work relationships established already.

Hopefully we’ll figure it out! Crazy times.

They are probably trying to get a feel for you still. I am sure they will come around.

I am lucky that most of the people at my work have become quite good friends. But it's tough because the boundaries become different then if they where just another coworker and you have to learn to separate work duty and friendship.

Yeah definitely, and same with me toward them. I just think being 100% virtual doesn't really help matters with that kinda thing.

I'm actually pretty good at separating "work relationships" and outside friendships.

It's more about just being able to gain mutual respect for each other and then use that to build ways to communicate about work. That way you know you can go to them or vice versa for work-related issues if you need help/advice/etc.

Get up @ 6:30 am.
Turn on Espresso machine.
Drink Plant based protein shake.
Build a fire to warm our house.
Shower.
Bring my wife an espresso in bed. (Double shot, teaspoon maple syrup, table spoon half and half, pinch Cinnamon, topped with whip cream)
Make one for myself.
Check FT86CLUB.
Read TMZ for inspiration.
Post a Meme.
Eat oatmeal with Greek yogurt.
Let the dog out.
Let it back in & wipe it's feet off.
Feed the dog....
Check FT86CLUB again.
Think about wheels and tires.
Stare out the window.
Check FT86CLUB again.
Eat lunch.
Daydream with my wife about all the places we will travel when we get the vaccine.
Read ALL the news while watching TV.
Check FT86CLUB again.
Run 2 miles on treadmill.
Shower.
Throw the dog toy in the back yard.
Wash hands for the 100th time (today).
Watch more TV.
Check FT86CLUB again.
It's dinner time, let's eat!
Call parents. (Good, they are ok.)
More TV...

Ummmm....

... That's my whole day...

Go back to bed...

Repeat

Thanks for asking...

The van is pretty much done. It needs a new start battery and could use maintenance on the coach batteries. But, I'm not putting money into any of my extra vehicles at the moment. (Besides insurance, I guess...)

Anyway, my wife and I camped in it half a dozen times before it got too cold for her last year. I have driven it a few times this year though. It still smells like a wood furniture store. And is parked out of the elements, so should not get the dreaded "musty van smell"!!!

(The irony of cheap gas and nowhere to go is not lost on me. Or the fact that I built a van to travel in and then my state issues a stay at home order)

Just took this 1 minute ago...

I love how stable my van drives after installing Jeep Sahara wheels, 255/55/18 toyo tires, and 2" spacers.

all the car and hifi magazines in the states have gone off the rails. so i don't get any of them any more...

used to get roadkill for the DIY stuff, they shut that down and converted my remaining subscription(3 years at the time) to hot rod, which is less DIY and more about rich old farts complaining their transmission in their $400k super bird is a little notchy. it's like a hillbilly trying to enter a country club. roadkill welcomed anyone and everyone on any budget, brand didn't matter. but hot rod's still got a very elitist domestic-only attitude that i just can't stand. they're starting to reach the 'harley davidson' peak, where they've got a ton of history and an obsessive userbase. but they can't cover newer stuff without alienating the older userbase, but that same userbase is dying off...

used to get PAS(performance Auto and Sound), as well as stereophile too. stereophile went way off the rails into vacuum sealed interconnect cables and 'isolation blocks'(little chunks of exotic wood) to raise cables off the floor.. PAS stopped covering individual builds and started covering only shop-sponsored off-the-rails builds...

i'm tired of magazines telling me that the only way to get something nice is to spend the gdp of a small country on a finished product built by someone else.

there's becoming this voodoo to all these industries where everyone seems scared to talk about what and how they do things, because in all reality, few of it is difficult, it's just time consuming to get to the level of fit and finish they showcase.

I read Hi Fi Choice, it covers budget to fancy stuff but more middle ground for people upgrading from their starter systems.

As for motoring, Car and Evo. I'm a longtime Car reader so stuck with them through their ups and downs! And, I used to get Classic Bike, covers old motorbikes.. I was trying to convince myself that I wanted a Gold Star!! No idea why.. but was trying to make it fit under the "investment" argument...

Cross-country skiing in Mt. Hood Nat'l. Forest. Another foot of fresh powder last night makes for a tough go with no tracks to follow so won't last long but have wicked cabin fever today. Will take the snow dog along.
