Thanks for all of this information. I see cables now that come with updated FW Ver 2.0.4 which is later than the 1.4.1 this procedure was originally written for. An example of this updated cable is seen here:
http://www.aliexpress.com/item/Origi...462046940.html
The software is also a later version. It is V10.00.028. I don’t know if the driver has changed or not.
I’d like to buy an updated cable but I don’t know if I can apply Jhood’s instructions to the updated cable. Davesrave used the updated software and found that the reg hack is no longer needed but I don’t know if his FW or driver are the same or if it makes a difference.
• Does anyone know what changes might be needed to the procedure to get it to work with the updated cable I linked to?
• Has anyone followed the procedure using a cable with FW Ver 2.0.4? If so, can you report results?
Thanks.

A few questions here for you guys:

1) Will this cable and software work on some or all of the new toyotas, like a 2014 4runner?

2) Does anyone have a full list of things you can change with the software?

The back of my owners manual has a short list of "dealer customizable options" I'll try to attach a pdf here: Custom Options copy.pdf It has things like stopping the annoying seatbelt reminder beeping. So I actually took my toyota into the dealership and had them change a few of these options for me, and I got to watch the guy do it with his lap top. He just asked me what stuff I wanted to change and then had to navigate through some categories to get there. I noticed that he had way more categories and options than what I had on my list of dealer customizable options. For example his laptop had a category for "climate control" or something, which is not on the list I had. Also I noticed that my owners manual has "seat belt reminder" ON or OFF, but his lap top had the ability to turn the seatbelt ON/OFF for the drivers seat and passenger seat separately.

So now I'm wondering if those are super secret options that toyota doesn't want you to know about, or maybe those options were simply for a different model toyota, or maybe some other explanation... What do you guys think?

The cable's driver is just a USB to Serial interface.
Techstream use the mvci.dll to communicate with the USB com port.
So just install the USB to Serial Port driver, then you can use Techstream on any version of Windows.
My OS is Windows 10 64bit, the cable's USB to Serial chip is ft232, so I download the driver on http://www.ftdichip.com/FTDrivers.htm and simply extract it, right click the .inf file then click install.
Now you can use Techstream!

Guys... looking for a bit of help. I generally use OSX but bought a microsoft machine for setting up the AHC suspension on my 100 series Landcruiser. I have Techstream running using the files mentioned above. Problem is that the Toughbook that I bought for the job has a licensed version of XP pro and it turns out that this is NTFS rather than 32 bit or FAT32.

So Techstream seems to install ok, and sees the Mini VCI lead (which lights up green), but when I try to connect to the car I get an error saying "cannot connect to VIM"

Are there any work arounds for NT?

See http://www.ft86club.com/forums/showt...=35530&page=15 post #197 for comments and file download link. This is not an endorsement, I haven't tried it yet.

I have everything installed - v12.20.024, ftdi driver 2.12.28 on both the port and the converter entry, mcvi for toyota, reg tweaked. The app is registered, the device plugged in but I can't connect to VIM.

There is also a WinDriver installed for a Denso VIM device 9.0.1.0 - i guess that is for the Toy VIM.

The firmware update tool will not connect.

The device is a Mini-VCI J2534
W10 x64

I have reinstalled it 3 time then again on another computer. Same thing.

What do I need to do?

tks
bill

Jhood, great, detailed, write up on getting Techstream running on a 64 bit OS. I had purchased the Mini VCI J2534 V12.10.019, sold by Yueku on Amazon. They clearly state that this cable is designed for 32 bit systems, but that there is a work around. And they do provide customer service that "probably" would have got it working for me, but your method seemed so detailed that I just had to try it. Worked great!! By the way, I installed Techstream 12.20.024, using your instructions - just substituted the newer files where needed. Thanks again for sharing.
