JRitt was talking about the offset of the brake rotor / caliper, not the wheel offset. I'm assuming the offset wasn't corrected by simply putting a spacer under the rotor hat (who ever does that for purpose-built kits?) and rather a new hat is used. I'm also assuming that the thickness of the new hub part of the hat hasn't changed either.



Even if the scrub radius did change by a couple of mm, you won't notice.
Definitely less change than what you'd get by putting wider wheels for track-oriented tires.
Yeah, that is just some wild guess from me. It might not be correct. I am just posting the worse case scenario that if they decide to use a hat that add may be 1 mm offset to the inside of towards the hub while still retain the gen1 top hat's overall shape to clear the knuckle. There exists such thing called rotor top hat spacers and BMW use it to fix the clicking sound from their 2 piece rotors when it hits the knuckle under high load.

So basically within ~1 week, we should know if gen1 BBKs fit the 22 gr86.

We spent several days measuring the car, and many hours in CAD drawing up new caliper brackets, disc hats, producing prototypes, a secondary test-fitting session, etc. Those parts were also put through FEA analysis to assess strength and durability. The discs in our 325mm system are also a completely new design and casting. Quite a bit of work went into this over the past month or so, and our engineers would contend that this was in fact a fairly comprehensive update based on their workload!

The CP8350 calipers in our smaller kits are already stiffer, lighter, and more durable than competing products, particular those that are anywhere near the same price. They have high quality ventilated stainless steel pistons as standard, anti-knockback springs, etc. (which others don't even offer). The CP8350 has won races and championships all over the world, and in terms of value for the price our new kits will continue to set the industry standard just like our old ones did. As such, we have no plans to redesign the CP8350 caliper. If we did redesign it, our 299mm and 325mm kits would become considerably more expensive (which many 86 owners don't want).

That said, we do have the latest caliper tech available, which would be our AP Racing Radi-CAL Kits. We plan to have these available for the GR86, just like we now have them for the new BRZ. Bleeding-edge caliper technology unfortunately comes with a higher price tag, but we will have them if that's what you're after.

In summary, we have a bunch of great brake kits across a wide variety of price levels. There is something for everyone, regardless of your budget and goals with your car. Nobody will be disappointed with our brake kits, just like they weren't disappointed with our kits for the Gen.1 cars. Quite the opposite in fact.

Understood! Not trying to give you and the team a hard time. I read "completely new and different" and was confused looking for clarification. I'm all for lower prices but I'll have to look into the radi-cal kit too. Thanks for the response.

Did you happen to look into a compatible 2 pot caliper for the rear yet?

We did, and we will not have any 2 piston caliper kits for the rear. Sorry!

For existing Essex/AP Racing brake kit owners: We have completed measurement of the 2022 GR86. If you have one of our original 299mm or 325mm CP8350 AP Racing by Essex Competition Brake Kits, it will fit and function properly on your new GR86. Also, both kits will fit behind the 2022 GR86 OEM 17" and 18" wheels without a spacer.

If you damage something or have any problems, we will of course sell you a replacement. That only occurs very rarely. I will put a note in the article about that. We would never leave anyone hanging without parts. Thanks for mentioning this...good catch!

The 299mm disc is fixed. The 325mm is the floating option. There is no 299mm floating option. Our 325mm disc with hat weighs about 15.9 lbs. You'd have to find out what the Brembo disc weighs.

Either rear OEM brake setup works great with our front kits. We've deployed them to many cars with both types.
